Part-time work services

Medical Programs. Large chemical plants have at least one hill-time physician who is at the plant five days a week and on call at all other times. Smaller plants either have part-time physicians or take injured employees to a nearby hospital or clinic by arrangement with the company compensation-insurance carrier. When part-time physicians or outside medical services are used, there is Httle opportunity for medical personnel to become familiar with plant operations or to assist in improving the health aspects of plant work. Therefore, it is essential that chemical-ha2ards manuals and procedures, which highlight symptoms and methods of treatment, be developed. A hill-time industrial physician should devote a substantial amount of time to becoming familiar with the plant, its processes, and the materials employed. Such education enables the physician to be better prepared to treat injuries and illnesses and to advise on preventive measures. 

Another part-time arrangement that s growing in popularity is phased retirement. Under this arrangement, workers stay with their current employer but reduce the number of hours worked. This allows the employer to retain needed skills and the worker to try retirement—a win-win opportunity for both. To make phased retirement attractive, the Internal Revenue Service has proposed a rules change that allows workers 59 years or older who cut back on their hours to supplement their earnings with a partial pension from the same employer.

This function includes all information about the operational status and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and facilities. Operational status refers to an availability state (in active service, ready, standby, in/awaiting maintenance, etc.), along with total time in service, time since last regular maintenance, and so on. The ERP system tracks maintenance schedules for the equipment and actual maintenance incidents, both preventive and remedial, and typically an attention list of things that may need inspection and refit. Any maintenance activities include both technical data (nature of fault, repair or change, parts installed, named services performed, etc.) and administrative data (authorization, execution team, date and time, etc.). In addition, this component tracks the schedules, labor, and work assignments of maintenance teams, external maintenance contracts and calls, and actual or assigned costs of maintenance activities. 

The European Commission has proposed three directives to regnlate the employment of part-time and temporary employees. These include giving part-time workers a pro rata right to hohday, seniority and dismissal allowances. They would also have the right to pro rata treatment in respect of pensions and sick pay, as well as access to any social services and training provided by the employer. It also proposed that part-time employees who work at least eight hours per week should come within the National Insurance scheme, regardless of how little they earn. 

A. To calculate the total hours worked by all employees, include the hours worked by salaried, hourly, part-time and seasonal workers, as well as hours worked by other workers you supervise (e.g., workers supplied by a temporary help service). Do not include vacation, sick leave, holidays, or any other non-work time even if employees were paid for it. If your establishment keeps records of only the hours paid or if you have employees who are not paid by the hour, you must estimate the hours that the employees actually worked. 

By no means does every position in a company need to be filled by a fulltime employee. There are many jobs that can be performed by a part-time employee, temporary or contract worker, or consultant. Project work, such as market research, customer satisfaction surveys, and even some technical service, for example, fielding telephone inquiries, can be successfully accomplished via this route. Also, it is often wise to use disinterested, outside parties to confirm critical data that has been generated internally, such as project work. Do not use such people in jobs where you need to build up a permanent reservoir of experience within the company.

In order to turn the entire electronics industry around from its more than 40 years of lead-tin solder assembly practices, a close working relationship is required with the supply chain, i.e., the vendors that provide materials, parts, and assembly services. The industry must come to some consensus concerning lead-free materials, particularly solders and component lead finishes. Vendors cannot be expected to provide multiple versions of individual part numbers. In addition, consensus will allow price reductions that result from economies of scale. As always, companies that desire products from vendors that lie outside the de facto standards (i.e., the industry consensus) must be prepared to bear the burden of additional costs, sourcing issues, and, in some cases, long lead times. 

This means that parts must be ordered in advance for the turnaround and other work must be planned so that the whole operation may proceed smoothly and without holdups that could have been foreseen. This usually means close collaboration with the manufacturer or consultant and the OEM (or specialty service shop) so that handling facilities, service men, parts, cleaning facilities, inspection facilities, chrome plating and/or metaliz-ing facilities, balancing facilities, and some cases even heat treatment facilities, are available and will be open for production at the proper time required. This is the planning, which must be done in detail before the shutdown with sufficient lead-time available in order to have replacement parts available at the job site.
