Part-time work communication

Contrast this to the daily operational realities of hospital care with 24/7/365 coverage requirements and increasing part-time employment. Instead of a team, a crew is working. A crew is assembled from a talent pool unit staff, float team, physician practice, deployed staff from other disciplines and departments. Each member brings individual expertise and technical competence. They form together to complete work by shift, by episode of care, or in brief encounters. After a time interval, they redistribute and may or may not reassemble again. This has serious implications for standardization and simplification of work processes, clearly defined roles and responsibilities such as attending physican and resident, and protocols for reports, communications, and physican notifications. 

The project team organization, referred to in item 2 of the plan, varies according to the size, complexity, and scope of the project. Smaller projects are best handled by a small team of all-rounders working full-time, rather than a multitude of part-time specialists less communication and better teamwork more than compensate for any lack of more... 

The core team for a new vacuum cleaner motor is usually small (ca. 3 members). Internal communication, therefore, is not problematic. It is not realistic to collocate the extended team (tooling, assembly line, process planning). Extended team members are working on the project part-time only. The flow up and down the ladder of inference using asking and telling techniques should become spontaneous and should be a very natural part of the communication process. If the facilitator, or any team member, sees that the flow is not working appropriately, or that some information is not being processed correctly, they should feel free to call a time-out, which halts the process and reexamines the data being used. 

There is no question that, in every part of my career, dear and simple writing has helped me communicate what I wanted said. In research, I often have had comments about the clarity of my writing. I cannot hut think that this makes a favorable impression on reviewers. Although clarity cannot supplant content, it certainly encourages reviewers, and then readers, to spend some time with our work. Surely, that is what we want when we bring something to press.
