Thomas D. Schneid is a tenured professor in the Department of Safety, Security and Emergency Management (formerly Loss Prevention and Safety) at Eastern Kentucky University and serves as the graduate program director for the online and on-campus master of science degree in safety, security and emergency management. 

This text may be used in one of the many courses at Eastern Kentucky University taught by Dr. Schneid and his colleagues. It is also sure to be used as a reference on many university and corporate bookshelves across the nation.

My thanks to the many online and on-campus graduate students in the Master of Science Degree in Safety, Security and Emergency Management courses at Eastern Kentucky University who have challenged the status quo and inspired their classmates and graduate faculty to strive to find a better way of safeguarding the moms and dads who work in the American workplace on a daily basis. 

The majority of the material for this chapter was taken from a course developed for an online master s degree program in safety, security, and emergency management at Eastern Kentucky University (SSE 890 Business Continuity). 

E. Scott Dunlap, EdD, CSP, holds a doctorate of education from the University of Memphis and an MS in loss prevention and safety from Eastern Kentucky University. Dunlap is a professional manber of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and is a board certified safety professional (CSP). Prior to beginning his career in workplace safety, he taught fire prevention education in the public school system in eastern Kentucky. 

Ronald Dotson, MS, is a professor of occupational safety and health (OSHA) at Eastern Kentucky University and serves on the board of directors for the Kentucky Safety and Health Network. He is an OSHA Training Institute construction trainer, and he operates an excavation business. Dotson is a certified safety and health manager with ISHM, a construction health and safety technologist through BCSP, and an active member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Institute for Safety and Health Management, and the National Association of Safety Professionals. His current research interests include playground safety and occupational injuries of educational service employees. 

Dotson has served on a curriculum advisory conunittee for heavy equipment operations for the Kentucky Community and Technical College in Maysville. He also serves on several committees for Eastern Kentucky University and the scholarship committee for the Kentucky Safety and Health Network.
