Minority communities

In the United States, tuberculosis disproportionately affects ethnic minorities as compared with whites, reflecting greater ongoing transmission in ethnic minority communities. Additional tuberculosis surveillance and preventive treatment are required within these communities.

Treatment centers in ethnic-minority communities often use different treatment models than those in suburban communities. True or False ... 

Some ethnic-minority communities have opted to create their own culturally relevant models for recovery that incorporate some elements of the treatment models previously mentioned, but that include large numbers of more traditional practices of great relevance to the community. Treatment may look very different when delivered within an ethnic-minority community than it may appear in a suburban treatment facility. 

Relapse prevention within ethnic-minority communities can look somewhat different than it does in a typical treatment center. Relapse prevention methods with ethnic-minority clients often include involvement in traditional cultural activities as part of the therapy. One important theme may be the restoration of the client into her or his rightful place within the family and the community. Another potentially important cultural issue to address with many ethnic-minority clients will be difficulties overcoming shame. Fligh-risk situations may vary across cultures, and a therapist or counselor should know the community well enough to understand cultural nuances related to risky relapse situations. 

One of the predominantly white organizations had a program for minority students, and no minorities showed up. This was because they hadn t really advertised it. They didn t know how to reach out to the minority community. I find a lot of this sort of ignorance and it s a turn off... 

The NAACP argued that federal data showed—and manufacturers knew— that a disproportionate number of guns were getting into criminal hands in minority communities. The defendants argued that manufacturers were not liable for criminals obtaining and misusing their product, and that they had no control over the secondary market in guns. 

These caveats noted, there are several areas that deserve special attention, where analyses and social-cultural factors and sources of influence need to be better understood. How are we to understand minority and ethnic differences in decreased medication use, above and beyond their likelihood of use of medications for other conditions While these analyses have not yet been confirmed across a wide range of data sets, such findings are provocative, and may warrant more systematic studies of atttitudes, barriers, and stigma within some minority communities. If such findings are confirmed in other statewide and national medication data bases, more in-depth studies of specific minority populations seem warranted.

We in the minority community know that prostate cancer is much higher among minorities, African Americans, for example. It makes me wonder how, in this day and age, can studies not include a diverse population. It is just mind-boggling that those things continue to go on. 

Adaptive evolutionary algorithms have proved themselves as a robust and extraordinarily effective optimization method for tasks in the energy and process technology areas. The simple parallel algorithmic structures, which require only minor communication resources, allow workstation clusters to be used efficiently with PVM communications software. This means that complex parameter optimizations of multivariable functions can be performed at reasonable processing speeds. The results recorded to date are promising. Social support from the ethnic minority community is very important for local integration in the long run but also in the short run. Older migrants and refugees need (p. 417) spaces where they can communicate in their mother tongue and share with other people who have gone through similar life experiences. 

Ethnic minority communities make up circa 12 % of the total working population in the UK and it has been projected to double within the next 50 years. Ethnic minorities in the UK represent a younger, growing marketplace 1 in 5 pupils in state-maintained secondary schools in England is from an ethnic minority background (Schools, pupils and their characteristics 2014). Similarly, in state maintained primary schools, 1 in 4 children is of minority ethnic origin (Enegela and Ekpiri 2014). 

Critique psychological and related educational research and therapeutic models in relation to cultural factors and biases as they have impacted minority communities.
