Technical fabrication analyses were accomplished by study of the micrographs and examination of the objects using a Dolan-Jenner model 370 fiber optic inspection system with magnification to 9X. Fiber, yam, and fabric data were compiled and studied. The result of these analyses are reported in this chapter. [Pg.258]

The key point about assessing and defining process and product state similar to the machine operators way, is having objective information about the product quality. In the presented approach, the information from the optical inspection system was used to define characteristic situations based on the profile quality (the kind, distribution and quantity of defects) and the process parameters measured and stored by the automation system. A situation or case is thus characterized, among other things, by the aforementioned profile quality, the kind of profile that is produced, the used rubber-mixture, environmental data like air pressure or humidity, the values and latest progression of physical process parameters hke extruder-temperature, power of microwave heating or speed of conveyor-belts and the countermeasures that are taken by the machine operators. [Pg.687]

Several optical inspection systems are available that measure, for example, shape and height of the applied solder paste or placement positions of components. These systems, based on image... [Pg.431]

Automated optical inspection systems also image only a small portion, or view, of the assembly at a time. These systems normally can use somewhat bigger views than the 3-D solder paste systems because the features being extracted often do not require as much magnification as do measurements of solder paste depositions. However, inspection of components, such as 0402, 0201, and 01005 passive components, or very-fme-pitch deposits, can require the same level of magnification and therefore views as small as the 3-D solder paste inspection systems. [Pg.1258]

There should be no silk-screened ontUnes around components. Although such outlines may be useful for visual inspection, they just confuse automated optical inspection systems. [Pg.1267]

It may well be necessary to adapt an optical inspection system to accommodate the three-dimensional layout of MID process surfaces. Class 2l D MID can be inspected without additional kinematics and adaptation of the optical inspection system. This holds true only if the process surfaces are plane-parallel in the inspection plane of the sensor array. Classes n x 2D and 3D call for changes to the AOI system if the electronic components are widely spaced. This could well mean integrating an extra handling and positioning unit for MID, for example an automated workpiece carrier. [Pg.136]

The availability of integrated circuits paved the way for the next generation ofX-ray inspection system. These units featured a side-shooting fan beam of X-rays incident on an extended array of scintillators optically coupled to photodiodes or phototransistors. The resulting low-level electric currents were then amphfied, integrated, and electronically sampled and digitized. Such systems were under development by ScanRay and Picker in 1977. By 1979, Picker was marketing... [Pg.104]

The FAMOS initiative, introduced above, presented a flow cell (Figure 4.75) for optical inspections connected to one of the micro structured reactors in their new micro reaction system [124], The flow cell measures only a few cubic centimeters and the actual optical interface to a spectrometer consists of a macro-scale table-top device with a clamping mechanism which positions the flow cell in the optical pathway. [Pg.590]

To help evaluate the quality of the tubes, Quest Integrated has developed a tube inspection system using laser measurement for more accurate determination of tube diameter. The new system is called LOTIS (Laser Optical Tube Inspection System), and it provides rapid reformer tube diameter measurement with very high accuracy. The data from LOTIS can be used to estimate remaining tube life, determine appropriate operating adjustments or identify tubes that need to be replaced82. [Pg.81]

At the production line in question, the profiles surface quality and cross-section geometry deviation was already analyzed and recorded by online optical quality inspection systems. These camera based systems usually mark defective profile sections visibly, to separate them out for the operating personnel [910]. In some cases, this data was analyzed to quantify the amount and kind of failures statistically to control the rate of production faults. For an integrated management of process, user interaction, and fault information, and quantitative quality data, the records of these inspection systems also had to be integrated. [Pg.683]

Three techniques were developed and utilised to assess the bend of the guide tube, viz., optical inspection, ultrasonic air gauging and mechanical disc gauging. Optical inspection was carried out with a periscope/projector system (Fig 7). Sodium was drained to expose the heads of S A and the bend of guide tube was measured by finding out the radius of sweep of its... [Pg.152]

Optical Tomography can inspect layers of tissue up to penefration depths of some centimeters and provides three-dimensional pictures with a spatial resolution of a few micrometers. The axial resolution depends on the spectral width AX of the incident radiation while the transversal resolution is limited by the aperture of the optical imaging system. The axial resolution is... [Pg.642]

Gels created in polymerization and downstream operations such as pelletizing are referred to as P-gels. Resin producers are well aware of this fact. Specialized equipment is available that allows resin producers to detect defects in the pellets. An example of a company that manufactures high-speed inspection systems is Optical Control Systems GmbH (OCS) see [f66]. This equipment allows analysis of millions of pellets. As a result, resin producers can determine how many gels are produced in their resin manufacturing processes. [Pg.839]
