Epilation is required for permanent hair removal. The most effective epilation process is electrolysis or a similar procedure. Epilation can also be achieved by pulling the fibers out of the skin. Eor this purpose, wax mixtures (rosia and beeswax) are blended with Hpids, for example, oleyl oleate, which melt at a suitable temperature (about 50—55°C). The mixture is appHed to the site (a cloth tape may be melted iato the mass) and after cooling is rapidly pulled off the skin. A similar process can be carried out with a tape impregnated with an aggressive adhesive.

Preparation of macrocyclic compounds Development of efficient RCM, catalysed by Ru and Mo complexes, has revolutionized the synthesis of macrocyclic compounds. As an early example of RCM, intramolecular metathesis of oleyl oleate (104) using WC16 — Cp2TiMe2 afforded the 19-membered lactone 105, although yield was not satisfactory [20]. 

The present work reports results and observations on the enzymatic synthesis of oleyl oleate (which is a synthetic analogue of jojoba oil) in supercritical carbon dioxide. Special stress was laid on the comparison between batch and continuous systems for the above mentioned synthesis. Influence of different reaction parameters on the reaction yield and initial reaction rates was studied. 

The enzymatic esterification of oleic acid and oleyl alcohol to obtain oleyl oleate, which is a synthetic analogue of jojoba oil, was studied. The reaction was catalyzed by a commercially available immobilized lipase from Rhizomucor miehei. As solvents, carbon dioxide and liquid n-butane were used. Reactions were performed in a batch and in continuously operating high pressure reactors. 

Reaction performance. Supercritical carbon dioxide was used as a reaction media for the enzymatic synthesis of oleyl oleate directly from oleic acid and oleyl alcohol. Reaction was catalyzed by immobilized lipase from Rhizomucor miehei-Ltpozyme IM. Reactions were carried out in the high pressure batch and continuous reactor.

Barrault and co-workers studied the selective hydrogenation of methyl oleate into oleyl alcohol over RuSnB/alumina catalysts. The yield of oleyl alcohol was 75 % at 90 % methyl oleate conversion over a RuSnB/AbOa catalyst for a bulk atomic ratio Sn/Ru of 4. Over such catalysts the reaction involves three steps (1) the hydrogenation of the methyl oleate into the oleyl alcohol, (2) the transesterification between the methyl oleate and the oleyl alcohol with the formation of the heavy oleyl oleate ester, (3) the hydrogenolysis of this heavy ester into oleyl alcohol. The first and the third steps could involve mixed ruthenium-tin sites with two SnOx (x = 2) species, while the second could require tin species without...
