Dioctyl adipate

Often dioctyl phthalate (DOP). Also dioctyl adipate (DOA). [Pg.121]

All PVC plasticisers have a solubility parameter similar to that of PVC. It appears that differences between liquids in their plasticising behaviour is due to differences in the degree of interaction between polymer and plasticiser. Thus such phosphates as tritolyl phosphate, which have a high degree of interaction, gel rapidly with polymer, are more difficult to extract with solvents and give compounds with the highest brittle point. Liquids such as dioctyl adipate, with the lowest interaction with polymer, have the converse effect whilst the phthalates, which are intermediate in their degree of interaction, are the best allround materials. [Pg.330]

Plasticizers account for 60% of the use of 2-ethylhexanol (especially dioctyl phthalate, 34% dioctyl adipate, 5% and trioctyl trimellitate, 4%). About 17% goes toward the making of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate for adhesives and coatings, and 7% for 2-ethylhexylnitrate. [Pg.237]

Because of the presence of the chlorine atom In every repeating unit PVC does not bum as readily as hope. When used as a plasticizer, tricresyl phosphate also contributes to flame retardancy. In contrast, the organic ester plasticizers, such as DOP, contribute to the combustibility of plasticized PVC Tricresyl phosphate is more toxic than organic esters, and DOP is more toxic than aliphatic esters, such as dioctyl adipate. [Pg.153]

Dioctyl azelate (trade name - Emolein) Dioctyl adipate (DOA) Bring down viscosity of HTPB and consequently, increase solids loading which improve performance of propellants and PBXs. [Pg.269]

Dioctyl Adipate (DOA) or Bis(2-octyi)-Qdipate. Same as Di- 2-ethylhexyl)-adipate, described earlier in this Vol, without giving US Specification requirements and tests. This compd has been used in polyisobutylene binders intended for expl and pro pint compns. One of the rocket proplnts. Unit No 547, using DOA is described in conf Propellant Manual SP1A/M2 (1969)... [Pg.292]

Other 2-ethylhexanol based plasticizers were introduced, including some which imparted outstanding low temperature flexibility—dioctyl adipate (DOA), dioctyl azelate (DOZ), dioctyl sebacate (DOS), and trioctyl phosphate (TOF). In addition, TOF showed high resistance to microorganisms which was important in military applications. Furthermore, TOF improved flame resistance. However, the mixed ester—octyl diphenyl phosphate—also introduced in the forties—was far superior and showed a better balance of low temperature performance and flame resistance than either TOF or the well-established plasticizer—tricresyl phosphate (TCP). Each of these found a market as a specialty plasticizer because of these specific performance attributes. None, however, was a serious threat to DOP on an overall price-performance basis. Rather, they were used to supplement the properties of DOP where its performance was inadequate. [Pg.186]

Flexible PVC (Table 15.6) is made by polymerizing at 40-55°C and then compounding with 20-80 PHR (parts per hundred of resin) of dioctyl phthalate and/or other monomeric liquid plasticizers (e.g., dioctyl adipate for low-temperature flexibility, oligomeric polyesters for permanence, organic phosphates for flame-retardance), plus a synergistic stabilizer system usually composed of barium or calcium soap, zinc soap, epoxidized fatty ester, and organic phosphite. [Pg.645]
