Ethanol [64-17-5] M 46.1, b 78.3 , d 0.79360, d 0.78506, n 1.36139, pK 15.93. Usual impurities of fermentation alcohol are fusel oils (mainly higher alcohols, especially pentanols), aldehydes, esters, ketones and water. With synthetic alcohol, likely impurities are water, aldehydes, aliphatic esters, acetone and diethyl ether. Traces of benzene are present in ethanol that has been dehydrated by azeotropic distillation with benzene. Anhydrous ethanol is very hygroscopic. Water (down to 0.05%) can be detected by formation of a voluminous ppte when aluminium ethoxide in benzene is added to a test portion. Rectified... [Pg.231]

Good resistance to oils. Mainly polyisobutylene polymers resist high-oil-content foams and rubber. In some cases swelling may occur. [Pg.651]

The covalent nature of the asphaltene molecules and the complex nature of the corresponding environment results in agglomeration. Based on the formulated structural models, asphaltenes are seen as an aromatic core which aggregates in concentrated solutions, > 1 %, comprising high-MW covalent molecules, which are surrounded by varying numbers of smaller ones held together by various intermolecular bonds [408], Such molecules are considered to be overlapped/stacked over each other in oil mainly due to... [Pg.190]

The presence of paraffin wax is usually reflected in the paraffinic nature of the constituent fractions, and a high asphaltic content corresponds with the naphthenic properties of the fractions. As a result, the misconception has arisen that paraffin-base crude oils consist mainly of paraffins and asphalt-base crude oils mainly of cyclic (or naphthenic) hydrocarbons. In addition to paraffin- and asphalt-base oils, a mixed base had to be introduced for those oils that leave a mixture of bitumen and paraffin wax as a residue by nondestructive distillation. [Pg.13]

In conclusion, pillared clays catalysts are not as good as initially predicted for the cracking of heavy gas oils, mainly because of the iron contamination of natural clays. There is a probability that they could be applied for the conversion of hydrotreated gas oils, giving a slightly lower gasoline yield, but higher octane number than REY zeolites. [Pg.251]

According to the latest assessments [1] the proven reserves of oil, mainly concentrated in the middle East, increased less intensively (from 86 btoe in 1973 to 140 btoe in 2000), than those of gas (52 Tcm in 1973, that was roughly tripled at beginning of the 21st century). The total proven reserves of crude oil and gas liquids at the end of 1999 aggregates roughly to 140 btoe that allows continuing current rate of production for 40 more years. [Pg.5]

The vegetable oil used was rapeseed oil (Nacalai Tesque Kyoto, Japan) without further treatment. The fatty acid content of the rapeseed oil mainly consisted of unsaturated fatty acids (93 wt%), with the saturated fatty acids of palmitic and stearic acids accounting for only a small amount (7 wt%). Various fatty acids of oleic (C181), linoleic (C18 2), linolenic (C18 3), and palmitic (C16 0) acids as well as their methyl esters were purchased from Nacalai Tesque. Anhydrous methanol and distilled water were also supplied by the same company. [Pg.783]

Active Constituents Absinthine (a dimeric guaianolide), anabsinthin, and a volatile oil mainly consisting of thujone. [Pg.22]

Table 11.4 shows the product yield of gas, oil/wax and char from the pyrolysis of other single plastics, including thermoplastics and thermoset plastics. Pyrolysis of polystyrene under moderate temperatures of between 500 and 600°C produces high levels of oil. Even at higher temperamres above 700°C, there is a high conversion of the polymer to oil. In fact the oil mainly consists mainly of the monomer styrene [8, 9, 23, 24]. [Pg.291]

Standard canola oil, mainly because of its fatty acid composition, is relatively well suited for biodiesel production. Harrington (145), and Knothe et al. (146) discussed desired properties of fatty acid ester structure for biodiesel. Knothe et al. (146) also discussed biodiesel standards in different countries, for those interested. Briefly, the desired properties of vegetable oil fatty acids for methyl ester biodiesel can be summarized as follows ... [Pg.752]

Epoxides have received increased attention in view of their interest both as end-products and as chemical intermediates. Epoxidized oils—mainly high-oleic sunflower oil—and their ester derivatives have found important applications as plasticizers and additives for polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Epoxidized esters produced from high-oleic sunflower methyl esters have hydroxyl values of 0, oxirane values of 5.2/ 4.5, and iodine values of 1.7/1.5 (127)... [Pg.1347]

Sunflower oil, as well as canola oil, is produced annually for sale of the oil primarily, unlike the case of soybean oil, mainly related to the demand for its meal. Sunflower oil accounts for 80% of the seed price, being six to seven times higher than the price of meal pellets. The price of sunflower seed is determined by the price of the extracted oil. [Pg.1353]

Diterpenic, phytyl, and geranylgeranyl esters were reported in olive and sunflower oils, but benzyl esters were only detected in olive oils (78). The wax esters of sunflower oil were found to have carbon atom numbers between 36 and 48, with a high concentration in the C-40-C-42 fraction (79). Waxes in dewaxed and refined sunflower oils mainly contained <42 carbon atoms indicating selective retention after refining. [Pg.1694]

The objective of this process is the deep desulfurization of middistillate types of feedstocks. Exxon licensed hydrotreating units in the past, but decided that a new technology had to be developed for deep desulfurization of diesel oil. Main differences from the existing technology is the different desulfurization kinetics for deep desulfurization and the importance of a good... [Pg.108]

Output 401 (bitter and sweet fennel oil). Main producers Russia, Hungary, Bulgaria. [Pg.229]

Main components 1.5-2.5% sinalbin, a glucosinolate, which, after the addition of water, is degraded enzymatically by myrosinase into p-hydroxybenzyl isothiocyanate (not water-vapour volatile), glucose and sinapin hydrogensulphate. Sinapin constitutes the choline ester of sinapinic acid. Moreover, the plant contains app. 30% vegetable oil, mainly the glycerides of erucic acid, mucilage, steroids and proteins. [Pg.236]

Composition of the essential oil Mainly a- and P-thujone, thujyl alcohol and thujyl acetate respectively [301 ]. Some chemotypes contain cis- and trans-epoxyocimene, sabinyl and chrysanthenyl acetate, chrysanthenol as main components [302]. For latest literature see [303]. [Pg.248]
