Objective of Control

Creating a pleasant shower. We start with the target because in this case it is easy to define and evaluate, as it is in many cases. But in some situations, defining the goal, or identifying the desired value, can be a very complex problem. To know what is best involves the resolution of an optimization problem. There are other cases where more than one objective could be involved, and some of them could be in conflict. What if we would like to have a pleasant temperature but also a certain flow rate of water, not too low, not too high Later, we will revisit such problems (multipurpose or multivariable). [Pg.30]

The objective of controlled-potential electroanalytical experiments is to obtain a current response that is related to the concentration of the target analyte. This objective is accomplished by monitoring the transfer of electrons) during the redox process of the analyte ... [Pg.3]

Emergency response— The personnel and equipment response to an incident with the objective of controlling the incident and minimizing adverse impacts. [Pg.440]

The Drugs Magic Remedies Act, 1954 was passed with the objective of controlling the advertisement of drugs in certain cases, to prohibit the advertisements for certain purposes for remedies alleged to possess magic qualities and to provide for related matters. The Act as well as Rules came into force in April, 1955 and was amended in 1963. [Pg.24]

The objective of control is quite different. The purpose of control is to keep a process property, e.g. the composition, as close to a preset value as is technically possible and economically desirable. The deviation from the set point is caused by intentional or random fluctuations of the process condition. In order to control the fluctuating process, samples must be taken with such frequency and analyzed with such reproducibility and speed that the process condition can be reconstructed. From this reconstruction predictions can be made for the near future and control action can be optimal. Another goal can be the detection of nonrandom deviations, like drift or cyclic variations. This also sets the conditions for sampling frequency and sample size. [Pg.46]

The past decade has led to the detection of new carbon allotropes such as fullerenes26 and carbon nanotubes,27 28 in which the presence of five-mem-bered rings allows planar polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons to fold into bent structures. One notes at the same time that these structures are not objects of controlled chemical synthesis but result from unse-lective physical processes such as laser ablation or discharge in a light arc.29 It should be noted, on the other hand, that, e.g., pyrolytic graphitization processes, incomplete combustion of hydrocarbon precursors yielding carbon black, and carbon fibers30 are all related to mechanisms of benzene formation and fusion to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. [Pg.3]

What about the clinical judgment of individual physicians The individual physician is not in a good position to assess the effectiveness of psychiatric drugs. In recent years, doubt has even been thrown on the objectivity of controlled clinical trials, in which drugs are compared to placebo or to alternative medications (see chapters 6-7). Too often, the investigators are influenced by their conscious or unconscious biases. [Pg.10]

Consider this customer outcome statement Increase the likelihood that clothes appear fresh after home cleaning. Increase denotes the direction, likelihood is the unit of measure, clothes appear fresh is the object of control, and at home is the context. [Pg.12]

In the past, toxicity tests have been conducted primarily with water column-dwelling or planktonic organisms, with the objective of controlling water... [Pg.2628]

As we proceed toward our ultimate objective of control loop analysis and compensation network design, we will be multiplying transfer functions of cascaded blocks to get the overall transfer function. That is because the output of one block forms the input for the next block, and so on. [Pg.269]

In Burton s Immuno-Augmentative Therapy, blood fractions containing proteins are used to restore normalcy to the immune system, with the object of controlling and combating cancer. Being proteins, there is chemically bound nitrogen present, the same as for amino acids. The proteins, in fact, are complexes made up of amino acids. [Pg.224]

Considering the different mine environmental problems of the south lake, the different treatment technology are taken due to the influences for achieving the object of control and protection. [Pg.337]

Control is the theory that deals with the dynamic behavior of systems with inputs and outputs. In production engineering, control theory has been heavily applied in machines - especially in computerized numerical control (CNC) machine tools. In the basic principle, the external input to the system is called the reference. In production, it is usually selected as the desired position to be followed. The objective of control is to manipulate one or more variables of the system over a certain time such that the desired states, e.g., the outputs of the system, can follow the external reference input (trajectory). In CNC machine tools, the internal variable is the motor torque/force that can be manipulated so that the actual position can follow the external reference. [Pg.281]

The objective of control strategy is to make sure that the product of required quality is produced consistently. The control strategy includes controls of in-process variables, input materials (drug substance and excipients), intermediates (in-process materials), packaging system, and drug product attributes. These controls should be based on... [Pg.558]

In the MOO (multiobjective optimization) method expected cost and robustness measure are simultaneously optimised. The robust model is based on the stochastic model (Eq. 10, with a = 0) having an additional objective of controlling the variability of performances of individual scenarios. The worst-case scenario is taken as the objective variable for the robustness measure and a decision-making procedure is applied to choose the best robust design alternative for the case study. [Pg.315]

This study shows that the control of industrial plants is based on a negotiation between environmental inspectors and the operator. The negotiation demonstrates the real objective of environmental inspection to try to reconcile conflicting interests and to protect the environment to the greatest extent possible without hindering the development of industrial activities. This leads to a compromise the objective of control is not to prosecute but to find solutions that lead to compliance. The recent reform of the Environmental Code formalized the negotiation and the concept of the inspection. [Pg.699]

It has been found that additives which have formerly been employed exclusively in aqueous systems achieve the object of controlling the wetting and spreading behavior of ionic liquids. [Pg.176]
