Myth

Myth 1 SRB are the most important bacteria when it comes to MIC. 

Under natural circumstances, it is highly likely to find mixed cultures of bacteria in which SRB can only be a certain fraction. Some experimental works with mixed cultures have shown the corrosive effects of such environments. 

Myth 2 There is a relationship between the numbers of SRB and the rate of corrosion the higher the numbers, the more severe the corrosion. 

It seems that the source of this myth is the work by Ronay et al., where it is stated that if the number of SRB per gram is less than 5 x 10, there is no risk of MIC, however a count of 10 or more SRB per gram of soil is alarming, indicating a severe case of MIC. 

Myth 3 If there are no sulfates in the environment, there is no need to look for SRB.

The most ancient uses of spices appear to be therapeutic in nature. The use of spices was common in China but tittle, if any, authentic Chinese records exist to confirm this. According to Chinese myths and legends, Shen Nung, the Divine Cultivator, founded Chinese medicine and discovered the curative powers of many herbs. He is said to have described more than 100 plants in a treatise reportedly written in 2700 BC. It has been shown, however, that no written language was available in China at that time. Although some of the herbal uses in the treatise go back several centuries BC, the work seems to have been produced by unknown authors in the first century AD. Other records on the use of cassia and ginger are known to have been written in the fifth and fourth centuries BC, in the latter case by Confucius.

Myths and misconceptions about the characteristics of supercritical fluids have slowed their application to chromatographic separations. While these fluids do have interesting properties, they are not super fluids, and they are not suitable for all types of separations. An understanding of the fundamental behavior of supercritical fluids is key to identifying appropriate applications [10]. 

This is a difficult question to answer because there are vast differences in machinery strength, speed of rotation, type of coupling, etc. It also is important to understand that flexible couplings do not cure misalignment problems - a common myth in industry. Although they may somewhat dampen the effects, flexible couplings are not a total solution.

Plastic papers have been developed as substitutes for these cellulose papers, but the economics are poor since the plastics are more costly. Also plastics weigh tend to be more than the cellulose paper. So it is possible to save the forests (does it really need it since it is easy to replenish as the past century proved). Did you know when America was discovered and up until the end of the 19th century there were literally no trees when compared to those in USA now and any depletion can be replaced and even expanded (as one knows who is learned in this field). Another factor related to this tree myth is that when the world started its Computerized World it was said by many that much less paper would be required. Of course much more is used and required.

The relationship between medicine and biochemistry has important imphcations for the former. As long as medical treatment is firmly grounded in a knowledge of biochemistry and other basic sciences, the practice of medicine will have a rational basis that can be adapted to accommodate new knowledge. This contrasts with unorthodox health cults and at least some alternative medicine practices, which are often founded on httle more than myth and wishftil thinking and generally lack any intellectual basis.
