The relationship between medicine and biochemistry has important imphcations for the former. As long as medical treatment is firmly grounded in a knowledge of biochemistry and other basic sciences, the practice of medicine will have a rational basis that can be adapted to accommodate new knowledge. This contrasts with unorthodox health cults and at least some alternative medicine practices, which are often founded on httle more than myth and wishftil thinking and generally lack any intellectual basis.

Participants asked that WHO establish more effective relations with key media groups (to brief them on health issues during disasters and to identify myths that hinder response efforts), and to develop guidance on media relations.

By my definition, superfruits should be all about sustaining regular healthy intake of nutrients from wholefoods, not processed, blended, and diluted juices—a definition that maybe surprising to you. Did you know that most of the juices that stimulated the concept of superfruits are highly processed so that there is little left in them except color and taste They are marketed on myths of ancient uses for unproved health benefits, not on the nutrient value of the natural fruit that this book emphasizes. 

There is inadequate documentation about herbal medicine in the cormtry. The plant remedies have not been scientifically validated for safety and efficacy for them to be included in list of essential drugs for natiorral health systems (JJ). Herbal medical practice is also still shrouded in secrecy and perceptions of metaphysical powers. It is essential that research should explode the myths and superstitions associated with herbal remedies by establishing the real basis of the therapeutic properties of the medicirral plants used in herbal remedies (J 2).

There are several societal myths with regard to the use of medications to assist those who suffer from physical health and mental health problems. 

Myth 1 Physicians and other health care professionals are familiar with most if not all of the medications on the market, and there is extensive research to explain how the medication will affect the client who is using it. 

Bedazzled by the myth of mental illness and seduced by psychiatry s usefulness for disposing of unwanted persons, the modern mind recoils from confronting the irreconcilable conflict between the political ideals of a free society and the coercive practices of psychiatry. Let us keep in mind that psychiatry began as a statist enterprise the insane asylum was a public institution, supported by the state and operated by employees of the state. The main impetus for converting private health into public health came, and continues to come, from psychiatrists.
