Anti-cancer properties of diflubenzuron require elucidation. The indication that one or more hydroxylated forms of diflubenzuron can regulate growth of mouse tumor cells provides a basis for further studies to identify and isolate the most active analog of this compound, and it suggests that other benzoylphenyl ureas may have similar properties (Jenkins et al. 1986). [Pg.1015]

To obtain MABs, lymphocytes isolated from the spleen of immunized mice (1) are fused with mouse tumor cells (myeloma cells, 2). This is necessary because antibody-secreting lymphocytes in culture have a lifespan of only a few weeks. Fusion of lymphocytes with tumor cells gives rise to cell hybrids, known as hybridomas, which are potentially immortal. [Pg.304]

Calcigeroside C2 and its desulfated derivative were individually tested in vitro against four standard human and mouse tumoral cell lines (P-388, A-549, HT-29 and Mel-98). Only the desulfated derivative showed moderate cytotoxicity (IC50 = 5 ig/ml). [Pg.334]

Calcigeroside B (62b) has a quinovose terminal residue attached to another quinovose unit. This structural feature is unique for sea cucumber glycosides [69]. Psolusoside B (62a) showed inhibition of rat brain Na", K -ATPase with an To value of 3 x lO " M [99]. Calcigerosides B (62b), Cl (62c) and C2 (62e) were individually tested in vitro against four standard human and mouse tumoral cell lines (P-388, A-549, HT-29 and Mel-98). Only their desulfated derivatives showed moderate cytotoxicity (IC50 = 5 pg/ml) [70]. [Pg.345]

Other evidence that vitamin E from palm oil may possess anticancer properties has come from experiments with transplantable tnmors in mice. When injected intraperitoneally into mice, a-and y-tocotrienols prolonged the life of mice bearing Ehrlich sarcoma, sarcoma 180, or IMC carcinoma. y-Tocotrienol was more effective than a-tocotrienol in each case, and a-tocopherol was least effective. In addition to studies on experimental animals, Komiyama and Yamaoka showed the growth inhibition of hnman and mouse tumor cells (H69, HeLa, and P388) when the cells were exposed to tocotrienols for 72h in vitro. Survival of mice receiving transplantable tumor cells was also increased if they were fed tocotrienols in a dose-responsive way. Tocotrienols have also caused a delay in the onset of subcutaneous lymphoma by 2 to 4 weeks in HRS/J hairless mice, a strain genetically susceptible to subcutaneous lymphoma. " ... [Pg.587]

Methylcholanthrene-induced (Meth-A) mouse tumor cells grown in an astaxanthin-supplemented medium had reduced cell numbers and lower DNA synthesis rates 1 to 2 days postincubation than control cultures. Similarly, astaxanthin inhibited murine... [Pg.674]

Conditions voltage 30 kV, injection 1 s. Other conditions are as in Figure 23.2. Designations ac0-ac4 = non-, mono-, di-, tri-, and tetra-acetylated histone H4. [Pg.713]

Figure 1-3 shows a number of nucleoside antibiotics which contain adenine and an unusual sugar at the 9-position. Cordycepin (3 -deoxy-adenosine) is a cytostatic agent and is converted to the 5 -mono-, di-, and triphosphate derivatives in mouse tumor cells. Cordyceps militaris, the organism which produces cordycepin, also produces a related analogue with antitumor activity, 3 -amino-3 -deoxyadenosine this compound is also metabolized by way of phosphate derivatives. The angustmycins, psicofuranine and decoyinine, are, respectively, the 9-j3-D-psicofuranosyl... [Pg.13]
