The air is streaming through the supply pipes directly into the blade which is mounted on a turntable. The blade is measured in different positions, so that all important surface areas can be examined. The time for a complete blade examination is approximatly 5 minutes. In the first two types a brake shoe, operated by an external auxiliary supply, is mounted on the extended shaft at the NDE (non-driving end) of the motor. Lube oil units are typieally available in two versions the manu-faeturer s standard or in aeeordanee with API Standard 614. The major eomponents of a unit are the oil tank, auxiliary oil pump, double filter and, seleetively, one or two oil eoolers. All eomponents of the smaller units are mounted on a eommon bedplate, separated from the other eomponents. The oil ean be heated by an eleetrieal or steam-powered heating unit. The neeessary instrumentation is a standard supply item and, if requested, the switehes and motors ean be prewired. Lube oil level in the reservoir should be monitored by a sensing deviee to indieate low lube oil level. Loeal and panel-mounted pressure gauges are neeessary to monitor operation of the lube oil system and must be ineluded in the manufaeturer s seope of supply. The purehaser must distinguish between eontrol room instrumentation and instruments mounted on a stand-alone (loeal) panel. This node(s) presents a different problem. Its AC voltage can be easily capac-itively coupled into any adjacent traces on different metal layers, as well as radiate EMI. Unfortunately, it is generally the trace that must also act as a heatsink for both the power switch and the rectifiers, especially in surface mount power supplies. Electrically, the trace wants to be as small as possible, but thermally, it wants to be large. There is one good compromise in the surface mount designs, and that is to make the top PCB island identical to the bottom PCB island and connect them with numerous vias (or thru-hole connections). There are several suppliers of electron accelerators suitable for remote repair of composites, including Varian, Siemans, and Schonberg. At present, the only manufacturer of suitable portable electron accelerators is Schonberg Radiation Corporation of Santa Clara, California. Field repair of damaged aircraft components can be accomplished with a remotely controlled, truck-mounted accelerator. When solution must be pumped, consideration should be given to use of holding tanks between the dry feed system and feed pumps, and the solution water supply should be controlled to prevent excessive dilution. The dry feeders may be started and stopped by tank level probes. Variable-control metering pumps can then transfer the alum stock solution to the point of application without further dilution. Means should be provided for calibration of the chemical feeders. Volumetric feeders may be mounted on platform scales. Belt feeders should include a sample chute and box to catch samples for checking actual delivery with set delivery. Gravimetric feeders are usually furnished with totalizers only. Remote instrumentation is frequently used with gravimetric equipment, but seldom used with volumetric equipment. [Pg.95]

Bulk unloading facilities usually must be provided at the treatment plant. Rail cars are constructed for top unloading and therefore require an air supply system and flexible connectors to pneumatically displace the alum from the car. U.S. Department of Transportation regulations concerning chemical tank car unloading should be observed. Tank truck unloading is usually accomplished by gravity or by a truck mounted pump. [Pg.95]
