Volumetric feeders

Volumetric Feeders. Examples of volumetric feeders are screws, belts, rotary valves, louvered, and vibratory. [Pg.557]

Ga.in-in- Weight Feeders. These types of feeders are used only for batching appHcations. The receiving container rests on a scale or on load cells and the system controls the discharge from the filling bin, which can use a volumetric feeder to control rate. A batch accuracy of 1/4% at two standard deviations is not unusual. [Pg.560]

When solution must be pumped, consideration should be given to use of holding tanks between the dry feed system and feed pumps, and the solution water supply should be controlled to prevent excessive dilution. The dry feeders may be started and stopped by tank level probes. Variable-control metering pumps can then transfer the alum stock solution to the point of application without further dilution. Means should be provided for calibration of the chemical feeders. Volumetric feeders may be mounted on platform scales. Belt feeders should include a sample chute and box to catch samples for checking actual delivery with set delivery. Gravimetric feeders are usually furnished with totalizers only. Remote instrumentation is frequently used with gravimetric equipment, but seldom used with volumetric equipment. [Pg.95]

Volumetric or gravimetric feeders may be used, but volumetric feeders are usually selected only for installations where comparatively low feed rates are required. Dilution does not appear to be important, therefore, control of the amount of water used in the feeding operation is not considered necessary. Inexpensive hydraulic jet agitation may be furnished in the wetting chamber of the feeder as an alternative to mechanical agitation. The jets should be sized for the available water supply pressure to obtain proper mixing. [Pg.103]

The NORIT Porta-Powdered Activated Carbon (Porta-PAC) dry injection system pneumatically conveys an adjustable amount of powdered activated carbon (PAC) from bulk bags into the flue gas streams of incinerators for mercury and dioxin emission reductions. PAC is metered using a volumetric feeder into a pneumatic eductor where moving air transfers the carbon to the injection point. A series of interlocks control the operation of the unit and allow local or remote operation and monitoring of the unit. This technology is commercially available. All information is from the vendor and has not been independently verified. [Pg.822]

There are several types of volumetric feeders in addition to the rotary lock feeder. These include a roll-type feeder (Fig. 2). a tray feeder (Fig. 3. and a bell feeder (Fig. 4). [Pg.606]

In the premix process, all additives are premixed in a mixer and then fed to the twin screw extruder at the primary intake stage via a volumetric feeder. A portion of the polymer is generally mixed with the pigments in powder form to achieve a better pre-distribution of the pigment (see Fig. 4.31). [Pg.80]

A non-uniform feed density is not a primary concern. Since tablet presses operate as volumetric feeders, variation of the feed density into the press feed frame can result in tablet weight variation. A funnel flow bin will typically have a more non-uniform feed density than a mass flow bin, since the blend in the funnel flow bin will be subjected to different consolidation pressures depending upon where in the bin it is discharged from. For instance, the blend located at the bottom of the bin at the hopper walls, which is outside the flow channel, may be more consolidated and have a higher density than the blend within the flow channel. [Pg.112]

Conveyors transport solid material streams. With appropriate geometry and speed control, they regulate the volumetric flow of the material and are called volumetric feeders. With the further mass sensing and control modules, they regulate the mass flow of material and are called gravimetric feeders. [Pg.1729]

Among the various feeder types (e.g., vibratory, screw, belt), there are two broad classes of feeders volumetric and gravimetric. Volumetric feeders rely on known unit volume (as well as motor speed) to meter materials whereas gravimetric feeders rely on weighing and speed-sensing devices to control flow. If the process follows three simple rules, a volumetric feeder can be the most effective and economical choice. The rules are [2] ... [Pg.1029]

Volumetric feeders offer no verification of the feed rate and permit no simple means to record their historic performance. Apart from an ongoing certification of performance, registered measurable values allow alarms to be actuated and failsafe or corrective action to be automatically engaged, should the feed rate fall outside acceptable limits. [Pg.57]

Bulk Density - Bulk density is the mass per unit volume of a fertilizer and includes the voids between particles. It is of interest in bag/package sizing, in calibrating volumetric feeders or applicators, and when considering the capacity of storage bins and transport vehicles. Bulk density is the most commonly used density value for fertilizers. [Pg.473]

In a work by Wang et al. (2012), pea starch was fed into the extruder at a rate of 350 g/h using a MT-1 twin screw volumetric feeder. In this case, water was injected into the extmder with a hquid pump at a rate of 85-158 g/h, so that the final mixture had moisture content in the range of 30-40 %. [Pg.32]

Continuous compounding processes require continuous feeding, this being achieved by the use of volmnetric or gravimetric (loss-in-weight) feeder systems. Gravimetric systems are more accurate but are more expensive. Volumetric feeders have to be calibrated prior to use in order to ensure that if process conditions are altered, the correct feed composition can be maintained. Normally twin-screw extruders are starve fed. The main-screw and feeder-screw speeds are adjusted to obtain optimum quality. [Pg.25]
