Molds cold press

For RPs, electroformed molds are mainly useful for autoclave molding and for closed matched die molding (cold press, low-pressure hot press, resin injection, resin transfer, low-pressure phenolic molding, and resin casting) as well as for reinforced reaction injection molding (RKIM). Prototyping can also use this technique for mold-making. [Pg.449]

This process is an economical press molding method for manufacturing an intermediate number of parts, such as 200 to 2,000. It uses low-pressure, room-temperature curing resins, and inexpensive molds. Cold press is similar to compression molding except that the resin curing action occurs via its own exothermic heat of reaction (after resins are mixed with catalyst, etc.). Pressures are moderate, usually 20 to 50 psi. Thus molds can be made of relatively inexpensive metals, plaster, or reinforced plastics. The edges need not be trimmed. Ribs, bosses, and other fairly complex shapes are not easily produced. Two good mold surfaces are obtained. [Pg.277]

Knit lines, also known as weld lines, occur in parts made of the processes in which the plastic fills out a mold (cold press, compression. [Pg.659]

Knit lines occur in parts made from processes in which the plastic fills out a mold (cold press, compression, injection, reaction injection, resin transfer, structural foam, transfer molding), except when the shape is very simple and there is an unobstructed flow path. Cores, variations in wall thickness, depressions, changes in flow directions, etc., cause the melt to divide as it moves through the mold. Where the melt flows rejoin, knit lines are created. [Pg.305]

The rigidi d thermoplastic sheet - Tiocess combines thermoplastic sheet vacuum forming with a spray-up or cold press molding process to add a thermoset composite stmctural backing to a decorative thermoplastic skin. Large parts such as bathtubs, hot tubs, recreation vehicle components, and camper tops have been produced by this process. [Pg.97]

Terrel, et al (33,3A 35). Another approach uses SC to fabricate various block shapes and is aimed at a variety of uses particularly suited for the Middle East. Until recently, all attempts to develop a cold, press-mold sulfur-based technology have been unsuccessful. However, this barrier appears to have been broken with the promising technology being developed at the University of Washington, Seattle. Through careful formulation,... [Pg.244]

Cold Press Molding. Occasionally the mix may be placed in a cold mold and pressed at about 345 kPa (50 psi). The cure cycle is considerably longer. [Pg.685]

Soybean-based, quick-clamping cold-press glues of exterior durability and mold resistance. [Pg.13]

Procedure. Specimen Fabrication. The reinforcements were mixed into the polystyrene melt on a Farrell two-roll mill at 320°F. It was necessary to dry the asbestos fibers for 24 hr at 250°F prior to mixing to ensure the breakup of bundle aggregates. The milling/fluxing time was held to 8 min for all samples. The sheets obtained in milling were cut, crossplied, and compression molded in an open frame on a Wabash press. After they reached the platen temperature the material was held at 330 °F and 2000 psi for 6 min. The frame was then transferred to a cold press, and the sample was cooled under the same pressure. The test specimens were cut from ys-inch thick plates prepared in the foregoing manner. [Pg.387]

Unsaturated polyester resins are one of the most important thermosetting resins used for preparing molding compounds for hot-press matched molding, cold molding, eind contact molding. [Pg.201]
