Moisture buildup

Minimize moisture buildup losses. Avoid formulations which exhibit adhesive characteristics with respect to process walls. Maintain spray nozzles to avoid caking and nozzle drip. Avoid spray entrainment in process air streams, and spraying process walls. [Pg.1640]

Through a combination of existing moisture content, moisture buildup, and small particle size, cargoes may liquefy and become viscous fluids. Vibration and the motion of transportation will aid mixing and cause instability, particularly in bad weather, possibly to the point of capsizing the ship. Materials prone to liquefaction include mineral concentrates, other fine particulates, and cargoes already high in moisture such as fish and peat. [Pg.221]

With a dry electrode plate, the moisture buildup and admittance increase in the SC start at the moment of electrode onset. With a hydrogel, admittance may increase or decrease. With wet gel or a liquid, the initial admittance is high, and with strong contact electrolytes the admittance will further increase for many hours and days (Figure 4.20). Because the outer layers of SC may be wet or dry according to the ambient air, it will not be possible to find a general contact medium that just stabilizes the water content in the state it was before electrode onset the onset of the electrode will generally influence the parameters measured. [Pg.101]

Heat and moisture buildup inside a garment can create a hazardous local thermal environment that is not present outside the garment. [Pg.267]

Engineered to deliver maximum comfort with a wide field of view, the Ultimate FX FF-400 respirator features a soft, silicone nose cup and a large lens that allows for superior peripheral vision. It s also the only respirator with 3M s unique Scotchgard Protector, which helps the lens resist dirt, paint and stains, and makes it easier to clean. Plus, the Cool Flow Valve helps reduce heat and moisture buildup inside the facepiece. For more information about this product, visit 3M.com/UltimateFX. [Pg.48]

The wet lay-up is the most basic method for repair of pipes. As with all repair techniques, the surface of the pipe must be cleaned and prepared. Most designs assume that after the repair is completed the stresses in the pipe will be resisted jointly by the steel pipe and the FRP liner. This requires proper bonding between the FRP and the host pipe. A typical surface preparation for such pipes includes sandblasting of the pipe to white metal condition. The surface of the pipe must be cleaned by air pressure to remove any loose materials. If the resin system is moisture sensitive, care must be taken to avoid moisture buildup on the pipe surface. In most cases, forced airflow will provide ventilation for the crew working inside the pipe. The temperature of this air can be adjusted to ensure a dry pipe surface during the repair. [Pg.40]

Rhenium hexafluoride [10049-17-9J, ReF, is a pale yeUow soHd at 0°C, but a Hquid at ambient temperature. In the presence of moisture it hydroly2es rapidly forming HF, Re02, and HRe04 (see Rheniumand rhenium compounds). It is not safe to store ReF in a glass trap or glass-lined container. Leaks in the system can initiate hydrolysis and produce HF. The pressure buildup causes the system to burst and an explosion may result. [Pg.233]

Anhydrous hydrogen fluoride rapidly absorbs moisture to form hydrofluoric acid, which is corrosive to most metals and results in tire formation of hydrogen gas in tire presence of moisture. Tlris corrosiveness can lead to equipment failure, and the potential buildup of hydrogen gas in confined areas makes for a fire and explosion Irazard. [Pg.271]

Since full analyses are carried out, a lot of data are generated. Every parameter is reviewed for trends that signal product aging or outright decomposition of the active principle this can be as cosmetic in nature as discoloration or as potentially hazardous as buildup of toxic derivatives. If the drug substance is an ester, for example, hydrolysis, particularly if moisture penetrates the primary packaging material, will decompose the compound into its acid and alcohol components. From a pharmaceutical or medical viewpoint, even if there is no toxicity issue involved, this will result in a loss of bioavailability. Even this is to be avoided because subpotency introduces therapeutic uncertainty and can go as far as lethal undertreatment. [Pg.246]

So a compromise was reached (Fig. 856). Since you ll probably do more extractions than additions, with or without reflux, the pressure-equalizing tube went out, but the ground glass joint stayed on. Extractions no problem. The nature of the stem is unimportant. But during additions, you ll have to take the responsibility to see that nasty vacuum buildup doesn t occur. You can remove the stopper every so often or put a drying tube and inlet adapter in place of the stopper. The latter keeps moisture out and prevents vacuum buildup inside the funnel. [Pg.184]

Elace. Hence, if particle buildup is to De sought, the scrubber should e preceded by an appropriate gas-conditioning section. On the other hand, particle collection by Stefan flow can be induced simply by scrubbing the hot, humid gas with sufficient cold water to bring tne gas below its initial dew point. Any practical method of inducing condensation on the dust particles will incidentally afford opportunities for the operation of the Stefan-flow mechanism. The hot gas stream must, of course, have a high initial moisture content, since the magnitude of the effects obtained is related to the quantity of water vapor condensed. [Pg.39]

Wildfire is a very important factor in western forest ecosystems. In the San Bernardino Mountains, the fire frequencies were determined by McBride and Laven in two stand types before and after 1893, when the area was first set aside as a forest preserve and fire protection began. Before 1893, the average interval between fires in ponderosa stands was 12 yr after 1893, it was 24 yr. The comparable numbers for Jeffrey pine stands were 16 and 38 yr. The buildup of heavy fuels due to ozone-caused mortality and fire protection results in hotter fires, and the thinning of the tree canopy results in increased rates of fire spread. Hotter fires decrease tree survival. Moisture interception by condensation in living tree crowns would decrease as the stands became thinner, thus causing some sites to be drier. ... [Pg.629]

When the prepolymer is melted, it and any gas in the container will expand. Care must be taken to prevent excessive pressure buildup. The container must be vented to reduce the pressure buildup otherwise, it may rupture. After use, the can must be flushed with nitrogen to remove any moisture-containing air. [Pg.74]

Heico Chemicals is the only producer of acetamide in the United States. Small amounts are imported from Europe and Asia. It is shipped in 32-L (35-gal) drums weighing about 80 kg. Acetamide appears to have a wide spectrum of applications. It suppresses acid buildup in printing inks, lacquers, explosives, and perfumes. It is a mild moisturizer and is used as a softener for leather, textiles, paper, and certain plastics. It finds some applications in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and antioxidants for plastics. [Pg.73]

A particularly interesting special application of LUROTEX A25 is the hydrophilic finishing of woven and knitted fabrics of synthetic fibres. It improves the moisture transport, so that the fabric is more comfortable to wear and there is less buildup of electrostatic charges. [Pg.98]
