Repair techniques

Dye penetrant inspection of the hardware to determine the extent of distress in order to develop material requirements and repair techniques. [Pg.206]

Infant mortality results in repaired units failing shortly after their return to service. It can be corrected by simplifying repair techniques, quality control of repairs and repair parts, improved starting techniques, etc. Units which have persistent abnormally short lives may have an inherent defect which cannot be corrected by the previous methods. However, the usual characteristic of infant mortality is its variability. Very good pumps of last year become the very bad ones this year and vice versa. Any pump is a potential bad actor. [Pg.1054]

No matter what a job demands, I am willing to learn whatever is needed to succeed in that position. Unlike many of my peers in auto insurance, I entered the field with little knowledge of motor vehicles, repair techniques, or claims adjusting. And yet, I have advanced in this field very rapidly. Currently, I am the second-fastest adjuster in my office at Safe Auto Insurance (out of 15). I credit my success, in part, to my ability to learn and apply new information quickly. I consistently completed training courses at the top of the class. I also sought out mentors, spent time before and afler work asking questions, and practiced my auto adjusting skills. [Pg.200]

Indications for surgical intervention include regurgitation with NYHA lll-IV symptoms or NHYA >11 with atrial fibrillation refractory to conservative treatment. Several surgical techniques are effective, The Alfieri stitch or edge to edge technique is of interest because one of the percutaneous mitral valve repair techniques is based on an equivalent principle (29,30). Currently two methods for transcatheter mitral valve repair are investigated in clinical trials ... [Pg.597]

I. In 1991, the surgical variant of the edge-to-edge repair technique was first tried in patients that were not suitable for complex mitral valve repair (29). This procedure is still performed with the intention of sewing together part of the free edges of the anterior and posterior valve leaflets in such a way as to construct a double orifice valve to decrease regurgitation. [Pg.597]

It is clear from this review of techniques suggested for the treatment of tapa cloth that there is a great deal of room for further research to determine the effectiveness of wet treatments, cleaning techniques, the potential for the application of buffering compounds, and repair techniques. It is also evident that because there are substantial differences in the species of plants used, coloring agents applied and manufacturing techniques employed, that there must be careful evaluation of tapas before any conservation treatment can be undertaken. [Pg.179]

Bucket elevators. The bucket elevators lift catalyst, at 900-1000°F., about 200 ft. Each elevator consists of two chains with a continuous line of alloy-steel buckets loosely supported between them (217). The upper shaft is fixed in position but the bottom shaft can move to offset thermal expansion and wear of the chain. Chain speeds are 90 to 125 ft./minute at catalyst-circulation rates of 100 to 150 tons/hour. Power requirement is 60 to 80 horsepower (241). Differential band brakes protect against reverse rotation in case of a power failure. Sprockets with renewable teeth were used at first (217), but a traction-wheel drive was later substituted because wear is more evenly distributed and life is longer (241). Repair techniques have been developed for extending chain life (316). Graphite is used to lubricate the chains (239). The upper shaft and main bearings are water-cooled and the bearings are lubricated with oil. [Pg.301]

The idea of percutaneous mitral valve replacement may be more challenging than mitral valve repair techniques due to the unique shape and location of the mitral valve and associated apparatus. The Endovalve-Hermann mitral valve replacement system (Endovalve Inc., Princeton, NJ) is a bioprosthetic foldable redeployable valve that allows antegrade trans-septal placement via a 24 French sheath. An early animal study in four sheep has been reported by Hermann at TCT 2007 (Figure 7.8). [Pg.131]

Because of the high penetration rate of pitting corrosion and the uncertainty due to structural consequences of locaHzed attack, the methods aimed at repassivation of steel should be preferred for chloride-contaminated structures. Only if the chloride content in concrete is low and the penetration of chloride is Hmited in extent, can other repair techniques be taken into consideration. [Pg.327]

Cathodic protection of reinforced-concrete structures exposed to the atmosphere was apphed for the first time to bridge decks contaminated by de-icing salts by R. F. StratfuU in California in 1973 [1,2]. In the years following, design and protection criteria were elaborated, as well as power supply and monitoring systems completely different from those used for cathodic protection of buried steel structures or structures operating in seawater. Above all, it was proved that cathodic protection was a rehable repair technique even in the presence of high chloride contents, where traditional systems of rehabilitation are inefficient or very costly. [Pg.346]
