Module trays

Modules Multicelled seed trays—also known as module trays—are available in plastic and polystyrene. The plastic ones are easier to remove plants from, and thus use again. Each seedling grows in its own individual "mini-pot," so its root system is not disturbed on transplanting. [Pg.198]

Homemade pots and seed trays Foil carry-out containers, deli and margarine tubs, polystyrene coffee cups, and yogurt cartons can all be used. Clean them thoroughly and make holes in the bottom. The designer usually wants to specify stream flow rates or parameters in the process, but these may not be directly accessible. For example, the desired separation may be known for a distiUation tower, but the simulation program requires the specification of the number of trays. It is left up to the designer to choose the number of trays that lead to the desired separation. The second classification is the physical model. Examples are the rigorous modules found in chemical-process simulators. In sequential modular simulators, distillation and kinetic reactors are two important examples. Compared to relational models, physical models purport to represent the actual material, energy, equilibrium, and rate processes present in the unit. They rarely, however, include any equipment constraints as part of the model. Despite their complexity, adjustable parameters bearing some relation to theory (e.g., tray efficiency) are required such that the output is properly related to the input and specifications. These models provide more accurate predictions of output based on input and specifications. However, the interactions between the model parameters and database parameters compromise the relationships between input and output. The nonlinearities of equipment performance are not included and, consequently, significant extrapolations result in large errors. Despite their greater complexity, they should be considered to be approximate as well. [Pg.2309]

This module consists of a tray that can generally hold between 20 and 60 sample vials whose volume is usually between 1 and 3ml. A pivoting arm to which is a needle is attached aspirates an aliquot of each sample with a rinse step between each sampling step. The needle is linked to the analytical circuit via a PVC tube. The rinsing liquid, the sample, the rinsing liquid and the next sample are successively aspirated by the needle. The rate of analysis is determined by the sample distributor. [Pg.650]

Depending on the number of containers to be used at once, some freezer-dryers use a multiport turret (a manifold) or a tray module. The former is suitable for containers of varying shape or size that need not be processed simultaneously the latter is to be preferred when a large amount of product or number of containers is to be processed in a simultaneous manner. The tray module can be equipped with an electromechanical device to close the containers after the products are freeze-dried in order to avoid external contamination. To operate the Opus analyzer, the operator selects a test and provides other information through an interactive touch screen/LCD display. When prompted, the operator inserts one assay-specific test module per test into the loading port of the instrument. The loader transports the test module to a 20 position incubated rotor where the test module is equilibrated to 37 C. The analyzer prompts for sample cup and pipette tip trays. A stream containing benzene, toluene, and biphenyl is to be separated in a distillation column to produce purified benzene in the distillate. The separation will take place in an existing column with a total condenser, a partial reboiler, and several optional feed locations. The feed stream is of fixed flow rate, composition, and thermal conditions. The entire feed may be introduced at any one of the available feed trays, but may not be split and introduced at more than one feed tray. The condenser pressure is controlled by an inert gas flowing in and out of the reflux drum.
