Nitrate is not a new problem. Excessive concentrations were recorded in many domestic wells in a survey conducted 100 years ago. What is new is the public concern about nitrate. This arises from two medical conditions that have been linked to nitrate methaemoglobinaemia ( bine-baby syndrome ) in infants, and stomach cancer in adults. Both are serious conditions, so we need to examine possible links carefully, but we need to note that these conditions are not caused by nitrate but by the nitrite to which it may be reduced. Nitrate itself is harmless and is most notable from a medical standpoint as a treatment for phosphatic kidney stones. 

Chronic Health Effect A chronic health effect is an adverse health effect resulting from long-term exposure to a substance. The effects could be a skin rash, bronchitis, cancer, or any other medical condition. An example would be liver cancer from inhaling low levels of benzene at your workplace over several years. The term is also applied to a persistent (months, years, or permanent) adverse health effect resulting from a short-term (acute) exposure. Chronic effects from long-term exposure to chemicals are fairly common. Recognize the PEL (permissible exposure level) for each substance in your workplace and minimize your exposure whenever possible.

In the event of accident or gross misuse of products, various health hazards could arise. The data provided by the supplier should outline these potential hazards and the simple precautions that can be taken to minimize them. Guidance should be included on the remedial action that should be taken to deal with medical conditions that might arise. Advice should be obtained from the supplier before petroleum products are used in any way other than as directed.

True. Many countries exempt certain people with certain medical conditions from the need to wear a seat belt in a car. Generally, however, most countries require the driver and passengers to wear correctly fitted seat belts. 

The usually accepted prevalences for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) are around 1.6% for current, 3.1% for 1 year and 5.1% lifetime (Roy-Byrne, 1996). The condition is twice as common in women as in men (Pigott, 1999). A small minority (10%) have GAD alone, and about the same proportion suffer from mixed anxiety and depression. Morbidity is high. About a half of those with uncomplicated GAD seek professional help, but two-thirds of those with comorbid GAD do so. Up to a half take medication at some point. The condition may coexist with other anxiety disorders such as phobias, with affective disorders, or with medical conditions such as unexplained chest pain and irritable bowel syndrome. 

Although every compound of element o is poisonous, it had once been used to treat medical conditions.

Upon stabilization, placement of a pulmonary artery (PA) catheter may be indicated based on the need for more extensive cardiovascular monitoring than is available from non-invasive measurements such as vital signs, cardiac rhythm, and urine output.9,10 Key measured parameters that can be obtained from a PA catheter are the pulmonary artery occlusion pressure, which is a measure of preload, and CO. From these values and simultaneous measurement of HR and blood pressure (BP), one can calculate the left ventricular SV and SVR.10 Placement of a PA catheter should be reserved for patients at high risk of death due to the severity of shock or preexisting medical conditions such as heart failure.11 Use of PA catheters in broad populations of critically ill patients is somewhat controversial because clinical trials have not shown consistent benefits with their use.12-14 However, critically ill patients with a high severity of illness may have improved outcomes from PA catheter placement. Medical referral is advised if the patient is pregnant, breast-feeding, younger than 3 or older than 70 years of age, or suffers from multiple medical conditions.
