Material suppliers, involvement

The DOD and NASA programs generally involve an aerospace firm that works with material suppliers to develop a material for a specific performance goal. In addition, the Government provides some research and development (R D) funds so the risk to the materials developer is minimized. In a sense, this is a case of vertical integration in which DOD or NASA is the end user and manages the complete product development. [Pg.45]

Reactive Interactions. Likewise, your material supplier may not be much help for reactive interactions on your compatibility chart. For these combinations, the first thing you need to know is how much heat or gas can be generated. In some cases, this can be as simple as using the heat of mixing published in a technical reference book. In others, it may involve use of special equipment to accurately measure the amount of heat and pressure generated during a complex chemical reaction. [Pg.207]

It should be fairly obvious, then, that because of the tremendous volume of information, the problem of keeping informed is a difficult one. The raw material suppliers through various techniques can keep the buyer or end user current with product developments. The end user s problem is to stay current while still performing the job he s paid to do. It s a difficult one obviously, involving compromises which are often made against the raw material supplier who does not measure up to the standards established. [Pg.106]

With respect to raw materials provided by a third-party supplier, it is essential to monitor, track, and evaluate the performance of the suppliers involved. Qualification of materials, along with extensive qualification of the supplier or vendor, is a critical activity for maintaining compliance and quality. Recurring supplier issues can significantly assault product quality. Supplier profiles, coupled with adequate monitoring and trending of supplied materials, are useful indicators that can effectively support a recall prevention program. [Pg.535]

Supplier involvement while mention is made of cooperation and communication with suppliers being an important aspect of product stewardship, no examples are given, nor is any mention made of encouraging suppliers environmental awareness. Elsewhere in the report the use of high quality raw materials is put forward as a means to waste reduction. This does not encourage a sense that suppliers are involved in product life cycle analyses. [Pg.187]

Supplier involvement although global standards for the purchase of materials are mentioned, no specific approach is noted for ensuring that suppliers meet acceptable environmental standards. [Pg.195]

Hence, a chemical s SC can be defined as all (business) units and processes involved in the production and distribution of this chemical. FVom this point of view, chemical production networks of large-scaled chemical companies are major parts of the SCs of many chemicals. A particular property of chemical SCs is that a comparatively small number of independent companies is involved in the SC. This is because chemical companies are often deeply integrated, i.e. many subsequent production steps are processed by a chemical company. On the supply side, raw material suppliers such as oil-producing companies and refineries are to be taken into account. Moreover, logistical service providers managing transport and distribution processes play a vital role in chemical SCs. [Pg.123]

A situation existed where a raw material supplier was causing a very bad color problem in a finished product. The supplier was disqualified but never given aity information about the problem. After repeated attempts to find out what could be done to resolve the problem, the supplier just ve up. Needless to say, the supplier was not happy. The subject came up during a supply base reduction meeting. Very little information was documented so we started the requalification process, which turned out to be successful. The difficult part turned out to be getting the people that were involved initially to put the situation behind them. As it turned out, their product was better than what was needed so another supplier was given the business, but this one remained as a qualified alternate. [Pg.95]

Directories come from a variety of sources, and although most typically consist of an alphabetical listing of names and addresses, they often cover a much broader range of topics. Most magazines oriented to the industrial market publish some sort of buyer s guide or directory issue each year for their readers. These are handy reference publications to have, since addresses and phone numbers are items often provided in addition to listing members of organizations, companies involved in niche markets, suppliers of raw materials, suppliers of equipment, and much more. [Pg.29]

When a radiator assembly reaches the end of its service life, a series of dismantling operations reduces the complex assemblies to their constituent parts. Each country will have a chain of operators involved in a national recycling network, and this example focuses on one country, Sweden. Once the used radiator end-caps are available, they can be sent for reprocessing to the company responsible for reprocessing. But of all the companies involved in the original production chain, from the raw material supplier to the component sub-supplier and finally the car producer, which is to be held responsible ... [Pg.130]

In the traditional supply chain model, the raw material suppliers are at one end of the supply chain. They are connected to manufacturers and distributors, which are in turn connected to a retailer and the end customer. Although the customer is the source ofthe profits, they are only part of the equation in this push model (E-Future, 2006). The order and promotion process— which involves customers, retailers, distributors, and manufacturers—occurs through time -consuming paperwork. By the time customers needs are filtered through the agendas ofallthe members ofthe supply chain, the production cycle ends up serving suppliers every bit as much as customers. [Pg.196]

Companies involved came from the cable manufacturing sector, cable users, material suppliers and research bodies. [Pg.119]

While it is hazardous, hydrogen peroxide is a successful product of commerce, and there are techniques for coping with the hazards [227]. Many of the safety practices reconunended for peroxide apply to other hazardous materials as well. These recommendations are more emphatic than usual in the case of hydrogen peroxide and extend to greater involvement of the material supplier [228]. It is always advisable to obtain... [Pg.683]

Another ongoing process during design development is the function of raw-material development with the anticipation of using the materials in the product line. More time needs to be spent if new raw materials such as fabric are to be developed. This involves working with the R D teams from raw-material suppliers to develop materials and test them to achieve expected standards. As this is a time-consuming process, it must be well planned in advance and monitored as scheduled in the PD calendar. Preliminary cost estimates are developed for the styles, which are required to make financial decisions for the existence of the style in the line. [Pg.26]

Accurate information on the size of the defoamer market is impossible to obtain. There are too many types of materials and suppliers involved. Particularly for the more common oils and surfactants, defoaming is a very small part of their total usage, and no public information is available on what fraction of manufacturers sales is in the area of foam control. Even for more expensive materials such as the poly(alkylene oxide) block copol5nners, there is no way of distinguishing between their use as defoamers and other significant surfactant uses such as de-emulsifiers. [Pg.602]

The choice of the right suppliers for raw materials is critical because validation of a bioresorbable polymer includes the characteristics of all the suppliers involved in the production process, ie, their quality systems and certifications. An unreliable supplier represents a possible source of issues when producing a device under regulatory approval. For example, a supplier could fail obliging the company to begin a validation process for the new supplier, the quality of the raw material could be erratic, or the supply of a determined material could be discontinued [20]. Moreover, in the past years the number of suppliers of bioresorbable materials did not increase as expected,... [Pg.135]
