The concepts of quality management (QM) and QA in analytical laboratories were developed primarily to harmonize the world market and in connection with the globalization of the world s major trading zones they have now been formally established in relevant directives and standards—formerly ISO 25 and EN 45001, more recently ISO/IEC17025. The requirements of these standards have become widely accepted as market-regulating tools by both the chemical industry and independent laboratories for routine chemical analysis. At present they are extensively implemented in the form of accreditation, a universally accepted process by which an authoritative body at national or international level gives formal recognition that a laboratory or a person is competent to carry out specific tasks. [Pg.390]

Other participating sectors also have the potential to profit in similar ways, but the net impact is complicated by details of electricity retail market regulation, by international trade, and by downstream company, regional and product differentiation. [Pg.11]

Snicide deaths and impnlsive acts of self-harm associated with pesticides have cansed increasing global concern. It has been reported that deliberate ingestion associated with pesticides has resnlted in 2-3 million hospital admissions and about 220,000 deaths each year. In recent years, pesticides have been used in a spate of suicides in some parts of India (Andhra Pradesh). Pest resistance and resurgence (mainly on cotton crops) and abuse of pesticides because of lack of strict market regulation of toxic chemicals like pesticides have been found to be the causative factors of human poisonings. [Pg.120]

A partial liberalisation of dismissal protection, the easing of restrictions on temporary agency work and product market regulations such as the lifting of the requirement of a master craftman s diploma (Meisterbrief) in some crafts sectors was certainly not sufficient in this respect. It was not possible to implement more far-reaching reforms that could stimulate labour demand and increase the supply of entry-level jobs. [Pg.58]

Even the most high-profile publicly funded programmes cannot match the resources put into promotion of pesticide products some economists would also point here to a long-term failure of aid in comparison with true markets (regulated in the case of pesticides). I will not attempt to enlarge on these politically charged and complicated issues, but I intend to identify some of the current real problems in pesticide use and how they might be addressed. [Pg.132]

Stock lending is not a sale and repurchase in the conventional sense but is used by banks and securities houses to cover short positions in securities put on as part of market-making or proprietary trading activity. In some markets (for example, the Japanese equity market) regulations require a counterparty to have arranged stock lending before putting on the short trade. [Pg.325]

Take the example of labor markets. The growing consensus is that for them to be efficient and play their role in an investment climate conducive to growth and poverty reduction, they must be relatively flexible. Further, they must aim to protect workers, who will likely change jobs at least once and possibly several times over the course of their lives, rather than protect jobs per se. This focus implies a lessening of the role of labor market regulation in worker protection and an improvement of income support to the unem-... [Pg.20]

Avoiding conflicts between policies and programs. Safety net programs cannot be expected to, for example, solve an unemployment problem caused by excessively restrictive labor market regulation or rural poverty caused by distortions in agriculture markets. [Pg.397]

Adverse Incident Reporting is an essential part of POC management and important to post-market regulation surveillance. Adverse incidents include any event that causes, or has the potential to cause, unexpected or unwanted effects involving the safety of device users including patients or other persons [Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)] and reports should be made to the relevant local bodies [48]. [Pg.41]

Market-driven regulation ( free-market regulation) ... [Pg.262]

In our present system, the vast majority of the marketing of milk and dairy products is handled by specialists, usually under a myriad of complex regulations and controls. Both successful milk producers and enlightened consumers should be familiar with milk markets, regulations and controls, and pricing systems, along with the factors affecting them. [Pg.713]
