Divi s Laboratories, India, established in 1990, is an example of a company that has installed a very impressive production capacity. At its two sites in Hyderabad and Vishakhapatnam (in Andhra Pradesh), the company has put onstream multipurpose GMP fine-chemical plants with a total reactor volume of 2000 m, far more than any large European fine-chemical company. However their sales of 87 million (2005) translate in a very modest turnover of 43,000 per m of reactor volume. [Pg.88]

In the turmeric plant, synthesis of curcumin starts 120 days after planting and reaches optimum at 180—190 days after flowering. Curcumin synthesis is highly dependent on location, agroclimatic conditions, genotypes and cultural practices. Thus, multilocational trials carried out at different districts in India (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh) indicated significant variations in curcumin content (Zachariah et al., 1998). [Pg.110]

Albene [Alcohol benzene] A process for making ethylbenzene from aqueous ethanol and benzene. The aqueous ethanol may contain as little as 30% ethanol, such as that obtained by one distillation of liquors from sugar fermentation. The mixed vapors are passed over a catalyst at approximately 350°C. The catalyst (Encilite-2) is a ZSM-5-type zeolite in which some of the aluminum has been replaced by iron. Developed in India jointly by the National Chemical Laboratory and Flindustan Polymers operated commercially by Hindustan Polymers at Vizay, Andhra Pradesh, since 1989. [Pg.9]

Snicide deaths and impnlsive acts of self-harm associated with pesticides have cansed increasing global concern. It has been reported that deliberate ingestion associated with pesticides has resnlted in 2-3 million hospital admissions and about 220,000 deaths each year. In recent years, pesticides have been used in a spate of suicides in some parts of India (Andhra Pradesh). Pest resistance and resurgence (mainly on cotton crops) and abuse of pesticides because of lack of strict market regulation of toxic chemicals like pesticides have been found to be the causative factors of human poisonings. [Pg.120]
