Magnesium salicylate

A method of preparation is to react an acid salt of choline (such as choline chloride or choline bromide) with an alkaline salt of salicylic acid (such as sodium salicylate, potassium salicylate, or magnesium salicylate) in an alcoholic media. [Pg.334]

The salicylates include aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) and related drugp, such as magnesium salicylate and sodium salicylate. The salicylates have analgesic (relieves pain), antipyretic (reduces elevated body temperature), and anti-inflammatory effects. All the salicylates are similar in pharmacologic activity however, aspirin has a greater anti-inflammatory effect than the other salicylates. Specific salicylates are listed in the Summary Drug Table Nonnarcotic Analgesics Salicylates and Nonsalicylates. [Pg.151]

Some salicylates are specifically marketed for musculoskeletal back pain, such as magnesium salicylate. However, no studies specifically support use of these salicylates over other systemic analgesics. Magnesium salicylate should be used with caution in renal impairment because hypermagnesemia may occur.31... [Pg.904]

In medical practice, other salicylic acid derivatives are used in the form of salts. Magnesium salicylate and sodium salicylate are less effective than respective doses of aspirin however, they are easier on patients that are sensitive to aspirin. Choline magnesium trisalicylate represents a mixture of choline salicylate and magnesium salicylate, which has the same effect as aspirin however, it is easier on patients in which gastrointestinal effects are observed upon taking aspirin. [Pg.40]

MAGNESiUM SALiCYLATE A sodium free salicylate derivative that may have a low incidence of Gl upset. The product labeling and dosage are expressed as magnesium salicylate anhydrous. The possibility of magnesium toxicity exists in people with renal insufficiency. [Pg.911]

Magnesium salicylate Magnesium salicylate in advanced chronic renal insufficiency because of Mg retention. [Pg.913]

Pregnancy Category D (aspirin) Category C (salsalate, magnesium salicylate). Avoid use during pregnancy, especially in third trimester. [Pg.913]

Children Safety and efficacy of magnesium salicylate or salsalate have not been established. Administration of aspirin to children (including teenagers) with acute febrile illness has been associated with the development of Reye s syndrome. [Pg.913]

In patients with renal impairment, take precautions when administering magnesium salicylate. [Pg.914]

Aspirin is available as capsules, tablets, enteric-coated tablets (Ecotrin), timed-release tablets (ZORprin), buffered tablets Ascriptin, Bufferin), and as rectal suppositories. Sodium salicylate is available genericaUy. Other salicylates include choline salicylate (Arthropan), choline magnesium trisalicylate (Trilisate), and magnesium salicylate Momentum). [Pg.429]

Contraindications Severe renal impairment, hypersensitivity to magnesium salicylate or any component of the formulation... [Pg.726]

Magnesium salicylate, an analgesic and antiinflammatory agent, appears to have exceptional ability to relieve backaches. It is also used for the symptomatic relief of arthritis. Magnesium salicylate is prepared in a similar manner as sodium salicylate, using the appropriate magnesium carbonate salt. [Pg.288]

Parenteral 15, 30 mg/mL for IM injection Ophthalmic 0.4, 0.5% solution Magnesium salicylate (Doan s Pills, Magan, Mobidin)... [Pg.818]

Weak acids and their salts (sodium sulfacetamide, potassium guaia-colsulfonate, calcium fenoprofen, magnesium salicylate, etc.) approximately 30%... [Pg.404]

Magnesium salicylate (Doan s Pills, Magan, Mobidin)... [Pg.845]

Aspirin is often given in a buffered form. The addition of small amounts of antacids decreases GI irritation and increases the dissolution and absorption rate of the aspirin. Nonacetylated salicylates, including salsalate, sodium salicylate, choline salicylate, magnesium salicylate, and various salicylate combinations, are usually more expensive but can be effective. Although these aspirin substitutes provide less anti-inflammatory effects than aspirin, they exhibit minimal antiplatelet properties and have fewer GI side effects. They can therefore be useful for patients who cannot tolerate aspirin or other NSAIDs. [Pg.99]

DiGregorio, D. Sherma, J. Analysis of the active ingredient magnesium salicylate in analgesic tablets by HPTLC with ultraviolet absorption densitometry. J. Planar Chromatogr.-Mod. TLC 1999,12, 230-232. [Pg.549]

Magnesium Salicylate, USP. Magnesium. salicylate (Mobidin. Magan) is a. stHlium-free salicylate preparation for use when sodium intake is restricted. It is claimed to produce le.ss gastrointestinal upset. The dosage and indications are the same us those for sodium. salicylate. [Pg.755]

Choline Salicylate. Choline. salicylate (Arihropan) is extremely soluble in water and is available as a flavored liquid. It is claimed to be absorbed more rapidly than a.spirin. giving faster peak blotx) levels. It is used when salicylates arc indicated in a recommended dose of 870 mg to 1.74 g 4 times daily. It is also available in combination with magnesium. salicylate (Trilisute. Tricosal). [Pg.755]
