The indole- and benzindole-cyanine dyes illustrated in Scheme 6 are used by many major manufacturers in optical disk recording applications. These types of dye tend to be more light-stable than many other readily synthesized polymethine dyes. To increase the photostability, the dyes are used in combination with various types of stabilizers such as nickel dithiolato complexes and selected tertiary aromatic amine compounds.199 The application of cyanine dyes for optical storage media was primarily developed in Japan203 and several dyes and compatible stabilizers are commercially available in pure form from Japanese suppliers.199... [Pg.609]

There are no clear advantages in terms of functional performance between the two classes of dyes, except that phthalocyanines are generally more light stable but tend to be more expensive to synthesize and modify. Phthalocyanine dyes are not suitable for DVD-R media, since the main chromophore cannot readily be modified to produce a sufficiently large hypsochromic shift. Other dyes potentially suitable for DVD-R include metal azo complexes, quinophthalones, and diphenyl-methanes. The cyanine dyes are particularly useful as they can be readily modified to tailor the optical absorbance requirements for all current optical disk recording applications.199... [Pg.610]

The operations and maintenance program consisted of routine maintenance of the SVE unit and vapor conveyance lines. Data recording units (disk recorders) required maintenance, as well as emptying the recovery drum of accumulated knock-... [Pg.319]

Paper data from instrument charts such as strip chart recorders and disk recorders should be controlled immediately after the occurrence. Strip charts and disk recorders will not all turn at exactly the same rate, so checking the turn rate can be critical in comparing the charts. The measurement range and units for each pen must also be ascertained. For crucial charts, it may be necessary to perform a check of the calibration. If... [Pg.133]

Post-production Sound Editing In the context of sound recording, the ability to correct the pitch of an off-key musical note can help salvage a take that would otherwise be unusable. Multi-track hard-disk recording machines often offer such capabilities. [Pg.441]

More overlap between hard disk recording, editing, and synthesis will occur. [Pg.471]

For ROM systems, information is recorded on a master disk by pulsed laser. The laser beam is varied or modulated, such that digital data is encoded in the pulses. The beam heats up and distorts a thermally sensitive layer on the master disk, recording a bit of data as a depression in the surface. The depressions are submicron in size, separated by grooves spaced 1.6 microns apart. [Pg.658]

The standard recording system is currently sVHS video recorders. This system offers considerably better resolution than the older VHS format and is not nearly as expensive as U-matic systems or optical memory disk recorders (OMDR). It is convenient to... [Pg.183]

As a rule, for the long-term storage of spectra forming a data base, generally floppy disks, recording tapes, or Winchester drives are used [16, 20, 34], in order to provide the fastest possible data activation. [Pg.148]
