Large copper ore deposits are found in the U.S., Chile, Zambia, Zaire, Peru, and Canada. The most important copper ores are the sulfides, the oxides, and carbonates. From these, copper is obtained by smelting, leaching, and by electrolysis. [Pg.62]

Uses. The principal uses of NaBH are ia synthesis of pharmaceuticals (qv) and fine organic chemicals removal of trace impurities from bulk organic chemicals wood-pulp bleaching, clay leaching, and vat-dye reductions and removal and recovery of trace metals from plant effluents. [Pg.304]

Nickel and cobalt are recovered by processes that employ both pressure leaching and precipitation steps. The raw materials for these processes can be sulfide concentrates, matte, arsenide concentrates, and precipitated sulfides. Typically, acidic conditions are used for leaching however, ammonia is also effective in leach solutions because of the tendency for soluble cobalt and nickel ammines to form under the leach conditions. [Pg.497]

Wet Process. The sodium arsenate and stannate slag are treated by a leach and precipitation process to produce calcium arsenate, calcium stannate, and a sodium hydroxide solution for recycle. The sodium antimonate filtercake containing selenium, tellurium, and indium is treated in a special metals refinery to recover indium and tellurium. [Pg.45]

Domestic. Estimates of U.S. uranium resources for reasonably assured resources, estimated additional resources, and speculative resources at costs of 80, 130, and 260/kg of uranium are given in Table 1 (18). These estimates include only conventional uranium resources, which principally include sandstone deposits of the Colorado Plateaus, the Wyoming basins, and the Gulf Coastal Plain of Texas. Marine phosphorite deposits in central Elorida, the western United States, and other areas contain low grade uranium having 30—150 ppm U that can be recovered as a by-product from wet-process phosphoric acid. Because of relatively low uranium prices, on the order of 20.67/kg U (19), in situ leach and by-product plants accounted for 76% of total uranium production in 1992 (20). [Pg.185]

Supported aqueous phase (SAP) catalysts (16) employ an aqueous film of TPPTS or similar ligand, deposited on a soHd support, eg, controlled pore glass. Whereas these supported catalysts overcome some of the principal limitations experienced using heterogeneous catalysts, including rhodium leaching and rapid catalyst deactivation, SAP catalysts have not found commercial appHcation as of this writing. [Pg.469]

The chlorination process, introduced in Europe in 1843, roasted ore with chlorides, followed by a hot brine leach and subsequent precipitation of the silver on copper. In 1887 it was discovered that gold and silver can be recovered by sodium cyanide, and this process displaced the dangerous chlorination process. By 1907 the cyanide process, where a cyanide solution is mixed with 2inc dust to precipitate the silver, was universally in use. [Pg.83]

One, the CLEAR process, was investigated by Duval Corporation near Tucson, Arizona (29). It involves leaching copper concentrated with a metal chloride solution, separation of the copper by electrolysis, and regeneration of the leach solution in a continuous process carried out in a closed system. Elemental sulfur is recovered. Not far from the Duval plant, Cypms Mines Corporation operated a process known as Cymet. Sulfide concentrates undergo a two-step chloride solution leaching and are crystallized to obtain cuprous chloride crystals. Elemental sulfur is removed during this stage of the process. [Pg.120]

Soluble Sta.nna.tes, Many metal staimates of formula M Sn(OH) are known. The two main commercial products are the soluble sodium and potassium salts, which are usually obtained by recovery from the alkaline detinning process. They are also produced by the fusion of stannic oxide with sodium hydroxide or potassium carbonate, respectively, followed by leaching and by direct electrolysis of tin metal in the respective caustic solutions in cells using cation-exchange membranes (27). Another route is the recovery from plating sludges. [Pg.66]
