Key performing indicators

Beside the definitions, each level of the SCOR-model includes key performance indicators to measure performance and recommendations regarding best practice. 

A perfect structure and process flow does not necessarily mean that the supply chain is performing well. For this purpose, key performance indicators and the drivers for the economic value added (EVA) are calculated. 

Key Performance Indicators Preparation for maintenance, the control of modifications, and the testing of protective equipment are examples of key performance indicators i.e., taken together, they indicate uie quality of the plant s and company s process safety. If they are below standard, the plant is at risk. The usual measure of safety, the lost-time accident (LTA) rate, does not measure process safety. Many companies that had a low LTA rate and assumed that their process safety was therefore under control have experienced serious fires and explosions. 

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in supply chain balanced scorecards and performance management are one example for analysis methods. Beamon (1998) and Chan (2003) distinguish qualitative performance measures such as customer satisfaction, on-time delivery, fill rate or flexibility as well as quantitative measures based on costs in distribution, manufacturing and inventory or warehousing. 

For the dissolution test to be used as an effective drug product characterization and quality control tool, the method must be developed with the various end uses in mind. In some cases, the method used in the early phase of product and formulation development could be different from the final test procedure utilized for control of the product quality. Methods used for formulation screening or BA and/or bioequivalency evaluations may simply be impractical for a quality control environment. It is essential that with the accumulation of experience, the early method be critically re-evaluated and potentially simplified, giving preference to compendial apparatus and media. Hence, the final dissolution method submitted for product registration may not necessarily closely imitate the in vivo environment but should still test the key performance indicators of the formulation. 

The development lab can benefit from valuable objective data to detect method shortcomings and to identify gaps in the method development process. The feedback on method performance should be discussed regularly. During the monitoring a number of key performance indicators are recorded and filled out in feedback sheets by the application labs (stability and operational labs) each time the method is applied. The method feedback sheet is sent together with the method description to the application labs at transfer. An example of such a feedback sheet is shown in Figure 22.

In addition to measuring financial aspects, it is important to set up a system to track other key elements ensuring full value delivery, to continuously follow up both on key performance indicators (for example, number of suppliers, quality of performance, etc.) and on whether actions have been followed through and milestones fulfilled. 

Ideally, the most critical financial and operational key performance indicators (KPIs) centering around service level, quality, and cost should be monitored for each function, but it is important for all SCM-influenced costs to be reported to avoid distortion for example, more frequent procurement orders would reduce the cost of raw materials inventory at the expense of inbound logistics costs, and omission of the latter would give a misleading picture. 

A key performance indicator of an inverter is the switching speed the sum of the pull-down delay and the pull-up delay. In Vgs = 0 logic the switching speed is inherently low. The switching speed is determined by pull-down delay as the low pull-down current provided by the load is much smaller than the transient pull-up current provided by the driver. 

The degree of divisional versus regional responsibility and accountability. The balance of divisional versus regional control can vary from the extreme of complete independence for the country managers to a situation where they have very limited control over their operations. Balanced scorecards (or a simple set of joint key performance indicators) can help to build a reference system in which both the divisional and the regional units are held mutually accountable for achieving their joint targets.

For some of these polymer-tethered lipid bilayers a few key performance indicators are discussed. In particular, we describe structural parameters obtained from surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy and compare those to important functional features, i.e., the electrical capacitance and resistance of the membrane. Furthermore, the ability of the polymer tethers to swell in water and evidence for the resulting lateral mobility of the lipid molecules in the membrane as an indicator for the fluid nature of the tethered bilayers are presented.
