Feature of the environment

Points (4) and (5) of Walker et al. are not really separate since the hypothetical other genes may act by altering some feature of the environment this seems by far the most likely explanation of the very wide range of enzymatic activities found in both heterozygotes and normals. 

We constantly value what we perceive as beautiful, ugly, repulsive, frightening, sinister, cute, and the like. Much of this appreciation is indeed acquired, templates being fixated in imprint-like fashion. There are however strong indications that many templates come preformed in our innate outfit. Such is the case with some of those concerning the aesthetic appeal of human facial and other bodily characteristics. Others concern environmental features. Thus human beings exhibit an aesthetic preference for plants (Phyto-philia) which reflect an archetypical imprint on features of the environment. 

There is a lesson to be learned here if a fish species responds in a certain way to a feature of the environment, the range of its response may be limited according to the environment where it spent its early life. The food of cod on the Faroe Bank consists of organisms that live on or near the sea bottom, such as crustaceans, brittle stars and other echinoderms, and small fish. It is not known how the food supply varies through a whole year, but in our limited experience (Love et al., 1974) we found that the ranges of water contents were almost identical in fish caught on 6 June 1966 and on 13 September 1968. The dates of similar voyages in other years lay between these two extremes. 

The fact that R appears in both the numerator and denominator of Vq means that the effect of the wave field does not necessarily decay with distance and that even remote features of the environment can profoundly affect the movement of a quantum particle. This condition gains added importance for many-body systems, illustrated here for two bodies, with the relevant equations ... 

Humans are an essential feature of the environment and it is false logic to view them as opposing or draining benefits from the environment. Of the total volume of the Earth and its atmosphere, the space available for animal and plant life is an exceedingly small portion. This is essentially the aqueous top layer of the Earth s surface, although there is, of course, an interaction in the form of gases with the atmosphere above the surface.

With positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), one can map out the regions of neuronal activity in the brain from birth to death in experimental animals and humans. The encoding of information in the brain is based on networks of activated neurons and specific molecules that contain information encoding features of the environment. Neuronal networks encode features of objects in the external world. The hrain also stores "molecules of the mind. ... 

It should help the decision maker to formulate, frame, or assess the decision situation. This includes identifying the salient features of the environment, recognizing needs, identifying appropriate objectives by which we are able to measure successful resolution of an issue, and generating alternative courses of action that wUl resolve the needs and satisfy objectives. 

The surfaces of materials are exposed to a variety of environmental factors. Therefore, when considering the contamination of a surface, we must also consider the combination of environmental factors to which the surface is exposed (e.g., liquid, gas, or solid as physical features of the environment) and the type of material making up the surface (e.g., metal, resin, glass, or porcelain). Furthermore, materials may be exposed to various pollutants in their respective environments. Thus, different surfaces may be defined by combinations of environmental factors, materials, and pollutants. It is challenging to establish an appropriate evaluation technique from the currently available options. The adoption of a proper evaluation... 

Abiotic factor A physical feature of the environment that interacts with organisms. 

Another feature of the environment that has an effect on intake is day length. This effect is most evident in deer, which reduce their food intake very severely as day length declines where short days coincide with a shortage of food, the effect is a survival mechanism to ensure that the limited supplies of food last through the critical period. Sheep also reduce their intake as days get shorter, but to a much lesser extent than do deer. Cattle seem not to be affected by day length. 

Control mechanisms for food Intake operate at the metabolic level (e.g. metabolite concentrations signalling the need to start or stop feeding) and at the level of the digestive system (e.g. signais from the degree of fill of the rumen). In addition, intake is influenced by features of the environment such as temperature.
