These factors are not necessarily all the guide-points in final seal selection, as individual conditions may be so special or unusual as to justify a special design or a compounding of the features of several standard designs. Only rarely will any seal be perfect for the service or job application. Many types and designs of seals are available, each to fill a certain need. Table 12-7 lists a few for general applications.

If you re applying for jobs at a local retail store or small business, having an electronic resume is far less important, because to apply for one of these jobs, you will most likely visit the employer in person to submit a resume, complete a job application, and perhaps be interviewed on the spot. 

Most employers require applicants to complete a job application prior to an interview. An application is a questionnaire that takes a few minutes to complete, but it s a useful tool for helping employers evaluate you as an applicant. 

Providing references is another key component to virtually all job applications. Prior to listing anyone s name and contact information, check with the people you want to list, and obtain their permission to use them as references. Also, ask what address and phone number you should provide to potential employers, because some people don t like having their home phone number or direct office line given out. One of the first steps in hiring is for a candidate to fill out a job application. Job applications serve two purposes. The first is to help screen unqualified candidates. Applications can identify whether candidates have the necessary training, degrees, and experience for the job. Maintenance of an impeccably clean storeroom and good physical organization that are essential for the preservation of the fabric collection is impossible without qualified personnel. Selection of a caretaker (not to be confused with the person responsible for the upkeep of the museum building) is likely to be very difficult. These days, because of the widely accepted practice of urine testing, and the newer method of hair sample analysis, recrea-tiunal users of illegal drugs run a greater risk of exposure than ever before. Many employers reijuire their workers to submit to random urine testing and also screen job applicants in this way. Positive test results commonly mean loss of jobs. 

The toughest letter to crank out is one that is meant to impress, as we all know from writing job applications if it s hard work to slip off a letter to a friend, maybe you re trying too hard to be terrific. A letter is only a report to someone who already likes you for reasons other than your brilliance. Take it easy. 

If you have the time and resources to customize a resume for each job announcement you respond to, you can use this section to show that the position you most want matches the one advertised. However, if you plan to use one resume for a variety of job applications, beware presenting an employment objective so narrowly focused that it excludes you from a particular application pool. 

International compatibility and recognition of these qualifications would seem essential in a profession whose activities are being increasingly globalized. Many employment opportunities in pharmaceutical medicine are with companies that have become international conglomerates. Intracompany transfers and international job applications can only be facilitated by universally recognized and accredited qualifications.
