Fhtients with diabetes Levodopa may interfere witii urine tests for glucose or ketones. Report any abnormal result to the primary care provider before adjusting the dosage of die antidiabetic medication. [Pg.272]

Urine testing has been widely used to monitor glucose levels in die past, but this metiiod has largely been replaced witii blood glucose monitoring. [Pg.496]

Urine testing can play a role in identifying ketone excretion in patients prone to ketoacidosis. If urine testing is done, it is usually recommended tiiat the nurse use the second voided specimen (ie, fresh urine collected 30 minutes after the initial voiding) to check glucose or acetone levels, ratiier than die first specimen obtained. [Pg.496]

With all of these pharmacotherapies, concurrent behavioral treatment is critical to retain the patient in treatment and maintain adherence to medication treatment. Contingency management programs in which patients receive vouchers that can be used to purchase pro-social goods and services are the most common reinforcer approaches used to initiate and maintain stimulant-free urine test results (Anker and Crowley 1982 Boudin 1972 Higgins et al. 1991, 1993, 1994). The major problem with these approaches has been maintaining abstinence after the reinforcers are withdrawn completely and devel-... [Pg.200]

The mucopolysaccharidoses share a common mechanism of causation, as illustrated in Figure 48-10. They are inherited in an autosomal recessive manner, with Hurler and Hunter syndromes being perhaps the most widely studied. None are common. In some cases, a family history of a mucopolysaccharidosis is obtained. Specific laboratory investigations of help in their diagnosis are urine testing for the presence of increased... [Pg.545]

In this section we first describe some background and case characteristics of the arrestees, and the types of drugs found in their urine specimens. We next describe the persons found to have a urine test positive for PCP and compare them with arrestees having other urine test results. [Pg.190]

Because our subsequent analyses are based upon the urine test results, we present information here only from the subset of arrestees who provided a urine specimen (n=4,847). Other analyses (not presented here) indicate that the persons who provided a specimen were virtually identical on these characteristics to the entire group of persons approached in Central Booking (n=6,406). [Pg.190]

This section presents some of the implications of our findings. Where possible, we will discuss comparable information from the urine testing program in Washington, D.C., in order to provide a... [Pg.199]

Perhaps of most significance, we have found that PCP use is relatively common in an arrestee population. Twelve percent of the male arrestees in Manhattan and about 30 percent of arrestees in Washington, D.C. have a urine test positive for PCP. In New York, this would translate into approximately 12,000 PCP-positive persons arrested and processed in Manhattan Central booking each year. Furthermore, these are probably minimum estimates of the number of users, since the urine tests failed to detect the many users who had not taken the drug soon before arrest. [Pg.199]

Because ketones are passed out of the body in the urine, a doctor can detect the onset of diabetic acidosis by doing a urine test. If ketones are present in the urine, it is a signal to the doctor that the patients diabetes is out of control. Without treatment, the patient could get very sick. On rare occasions, even Type I or Type II diabetics who take their medication can develop acidosis, usually as a result of some other serious health issue such as an infection or a heart attack. [Pg.81]

Any history of drug or alcohol abuse by a patient should trigger a request for appropriate blood and urine tests. Blood samples should always be taken to assess the levels of study drugs and any concomitant agents used. The drug containers should always be analyzed to confirm their contents. This usually entails sending these drugs to their manufacturer. [Pg.809]
