The Notice of Errors. The first mechanism for correction of errors is called a "Notice of Errors." This document may be filed by the patentee after issuance of the patent with the U.S. PTO and references the patent number, issue date, and the errors contained in the patent. The purpose of a Notice of Errors is to clarify the examination history of the patent and such notice dispositively corrects any misspellings, or typographical errors or omissions. One example of a problem which may be clarified by a Notice of Errors is an omitted chemical bond in a compound used in an exemplary embodiment of the invention. In short, the error is obvious and easily corrected.

The user can find suitable materials in a number of different ways. For instance any of the above measurands can be chosen and a search made within a specific matrix type. A list of the measurand values in all materials of the selected matrix classification sorted by decreasing concentration will be produced, including the uncertainties in percent, the certification status and the material identification code. Other search methods are possible, selection by material gives a table with values of all measurands in the chosen material in alphabetical order and additional information about the price, the unit size, the issuing date, the supphers and the exact material name. A further option is to list all materials from a producer. 

A system of document control, including restricting unofficial copying, is required, in order to ensure that only authorized methods are used and that these are the latest revisions. This requires attention to details, such as revision number, who authorized the method, who has amended it, issue date, date of next revision, number of copies and who owns them, etc. A variety of documentation formats are available, but a standard format for method documentation is provided in ISO 78-2 1999 and a layout based on this Standard is provided in the Appendix to this chapter [18]. 

Examples of Quality Audit report forms are shown in Tables 9.5 and 9.6 at the end of this chapter. Table 9.5 shows Report Form 1 which includes a record of what has been examined, so that subsequent audits can examine other aspects of the laboratory s operations. Note that when improvement actions are required, the form records not only what needs to be done, but also by when it must be completed, as shown in Table 9.6 (Report Form 2). The form is signed by the auditor and the responsible person from the area being audited. In the UK, the accreditation body UKAS refers to the corrective action as improvement action . This further emphasizes the continual improvement aspect of the ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 9001 Standards. The examples shown in Tables 9.5 and 9.6 will probably have to be modified to meet a laboratory s particular requirements. It should also be remembered that both report forms should indicate (usually as a footer or header) the title of the document, its issue date, issue number, who authorized the document, page number and total number of pages. 

GENERAL NOTE The issue date shown immediately following the hyphen after the number of the standard (e.g., B16.9-1978, C207-1978, and A 47-77) is the effective date of the issue (edition) of the standard. Any additional number shown following the issue date and prefixed by the letter R is the latest date of reaffirmation [e.g., C101-1967 (R1977)]. Any edition number prefixed by the letter A is the date of the latest addenda accepted [e.g., B16.36-1975 (A1979)]. 

Most public libraries subscribe to database services such as InfoTrac or EBSCO that index articles from hundreds of general-interest periodicals (and some moderately specialized ones). The database can be searched by author or by words in the title, subject headings, and sometimes words found anywhere in the article text. Depending on the database used, hits in the database can result in just a bibliographical description (author, tide, pages, periodical name, issue date), a description plus an abstract (a paragraph summarizing the contents of the article), or the full text of the article itself.

The validation officer is responsible to keep himself or herself updated with the current FDA and GMP guidelines and maintain an index with issue dates.
