There s a facet of martial arts training that s very appealing for people with chemical sensitivities the non-dyed costume is nontoxic, and lots of us wear white baggy cotton clothing anyway. This isn t like skiing or scuba diving or something where your costume will make you sick. [Pg.96]

Plant Material Collection of the rhodophyte G. skottsbergii was done manually during scuba dives within 3.5 km of Palmer Station on Anvers Island off the western Antarctic Peninsula (64° 46.5 S, 64° 03.3 W) at a depth of 5-12 m. Identifications were made by Prof. Bill J. Baker (University of South Florida) and Prof. Charles D. Amsler (University of Alabama at Birmingham). [Pg.9]

Another area in which the gas laws play a key role is in scuba diving. At the surface, we breath air at a pressure of approximately 1 atmosphere. The partial pressures of nitrogen and oxygen are 0.78 and 0.20 atmosphere, respectively. A scuba diver breaths compressed air that is delivered at a pressure that corresponds to the pressure at the depth of the diver. Because 33 feet of... [Pg.109]

There is another message of warning. Here one must accept the eloquent argument that, for the structuring of an experiment with an unknown and thus undefined new drug, there must be observers present who are both sober and sympathetic. The heroic and macho, "I ll do it my way," can lead to both psychological problems and physical risks. As with scuba diving, always work with a partner. [Pg.216]

Was this your answer As she rises to the surface the pressure decreases from 2 atmospheres to 1 atmosphere. Since the pressure halves, the volume of air in her lungs tends to double. A first lesson in scuba diving is not to holdyour breath while ascending. To do so can be fatal. [Pg.584]

You are scuba diving at a depth of 30 feet, where the pressure is 2.0 atm. You take a deep breath and fill your lungs with 3.0 L of air. Then you hold your breath and ascend rapidly to the surface, where the air pressure is 1.0 atm. What volume will the air in your lungs now require ... [Pg.150]

The conduit that feeds Rock Spring is entirely in the phreatic zone. It has been explored by SCUBA diving for roughly 400 meters. The conduit carries a flux of clastic sediments. The diver reports a lift tube where the flow rises about 4 meters up a slope. Channel facies sediments collected from bottom and top of the lift tube were dried and sieved. The resulting grain size distribution (Fig. 9) reveals little difference between the bottom and the top of the tube. These sediments are being swept down the conduit by pipe flow and quite clearly follow undulations in the pipe. [Pg.16]

Next stop was Shark Ledge. My dad s last scuba dive had left him with a bum ear, so he d be snorkeling above the rest of us. [Pg.69]

Developers have plunged into Roatan, Honduras, where the real-estate market is as hot as the scuba diving. [Pg.6]
