Self-inspection program

The facility has a regular self-inspection program utilizing experts from outside the facility or company, in addition to internal personnel. 

Quality assurance—organizational independence, staff qualifications, self-inspection program, AQL, change control procedures, documentation and reports, complaint files, awareness of current regulations, statistical concept employed, batch record turnaround time, etc.

Principle. The purpose of self-inspection is to evaluate the manufacturer s compliance with GMP in all aspects of production and quality control. The self-inspection program should be designed to detect any shortcomings in the implementation of GMP and to recommend the necessary corrective actions. Self-inspections should be performed routinely, and may be, in addition, performed on special occasions, e.g., in the case of product recalls or repeated rejections, or when an inspection by the heath authorities is announced. The team responsible for seif-inspection should consist of personnel who can evaluate the implementation of GMP objectively all recommendations for corrective action should be implemented. The procedure for self-inspection should be documented, and there should be an effective follow-up programme. 

To maintain strict adherence to all manufacturing procedures and prescribed controls, it is advisable for a manufacturer to appoint a properly qualified team to conduct inspections of its overall production and control procedures. Written procedures describing the functions of the self-inspection program should be available and followed. 

The purpose of self-inspection is to review regularly the status and adequacy of the manufacturer s compliance to GMP. Self-Inspection programs are designed to seek out any defects in the quality assurance system and to establish corrective actions.

OSHA will not routinely request to examine self-inspection records and will not use them as a means of identifying areas to focus on during an inspection. In addition, the agency won t cite employers in cases where they have identified a hazard during a self-inspection and have promptly undertook appropriate corrective measures to correct the hazard. It is OSHA s policy to recognize the value of voluntary self-inspection programs that are designed to allow employers to identify and promptly correct hazardous conditions.
