Information Systems Benefits

With regard to the common European market, the European Economic Community (EEC) has undertaken numerous activities concerned with materials and material information systems. In one demonstration program for material databases eleven such databases from various countries in the EEC are being cooperatively developed with joint standards for terminology, data presentation, database access, and the user interface of search commands, aids, and menus. For the materials class of plastics, Polymat was selected to participate in this cooperative work. Interesting developments occur from which the users of central material databases in the entire EEC area can benefit.

An advanced mesoscale model may perform well in some cases but not in others, and the model responses to data assimilation are likely to vary with weather scenarios. There would be a potential benefit of using several model winds separately to run HPAC. A composite result of the HPAC runs would give a more complete depiction of the potential surface-based transport of hazardous agents. Also, the latest version of HPAC allows us to display dispersion output within a geographic information system (GIS) environment. We should explore all possible GIS applications in dispersion modeling and damage assessment.

Iterative or Rapid Application Development (RAD) is frequently employed in the development of configurable information systems. Where this approach is used, a team is normally formed comprising system integrators and key users who collectively develop the preferred solution. The benefit of such an approach is that users are able to quickly visualize the system and therefore confirm its requirements at an early stage. Further, the system integrator is able to demonstrate the key features of the system and propose implementation options that meet both business and technical needs. In the pharmaceutical industry, validation is a prerequisite to their use for GMP purposes. The validation methodology used is similar to that used for other information systems. As with all systems, the more attention that is devoted to the design, validation and ensuring that the users will be happy to use the system, the greater will be the benefit to the business. 

Note that XDS provides an elaborate infrastructure but does not impose a higher-level workflow. For the short term, a viewer that presents an overview of externally available medical results can already bring a lot of benefits in the long run information systems could more actively request information as part of the workflow.
