Information labeling

This review adopts the broad perspective, recognizing that the primai y policy mechanisms applied to improve energy efficiency—minimum efficiency standards, incentive programs, normative and informative labeling progi ams, and technology-driven market forces—can address a vei"y wide variety of products. [Pg.75]

Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act(1994) Established standards with respect to dietary supplements but prohibited full FDA review of supplements and botanicals as drugs. Required the establishment of specific ingredient and nutrition information labeling that defines dietary supplements and classifies them as part of the food supply but allows unregulated advertising. [Pg.101]

This move to remove controls on formulations is backed by informed labelling that contains almost every imaginable kind of information for the consumer. This approach is now used throughout the world with only relatively minor variations from country to country. [Pg.3]

FDA (Food and Drug Administration)—agency administered under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (formerly Health, Education and Welfare) "to enforce the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and thereby carry out the purpose of Congress to insure that foods are safe, pure, and wholesome, and made under sanitary conditions drugs and therapeutic devices are safe and effective for their intended uses cosmetics are safe and prepared from appropriate ingredients and that all of these products are honestly and informatively labeled and packaged."... [Pg.161]

There are some key reasons for regulating the flow of chemicals to the market independently of other legislation. One reason is the need for preventive measures early in the supply chain, covering protection of the environment, workers, consumers and property. Preventive measures, such as risk and safety information (labelling and SDS), as well as bans and restrictions on trade with very hazardous chemicals support, simplify and make more cost-efficient risk management for exposure and emission control at later stages (transport, use, waste handling, etc.). [Pg.286]

The system must provide the ability to print various inventory, sample, and pre- and post-dispensing labels. All labels should include a bar code and printed text with the pertinent batch and/or lot information. Labels must comply with GMP-GLP (good laboratory practices) requirements to meet the needs of both laboratories and clinical manufacturing. Labels should be available in multiple sizes to accommodate laboratory sample containers as well as production drums. [Pg.2892]

Because a myriad of trace impurities affect yield, quality, and performance of a product, the technical sales service organization must be constantly alert to product quality. It must also develop new specifications related to specific end uses, improved packaging, more informative labeling, more and better literature, new end use technology. And it must assist the customer in the most efficient utilization of the products. [Pg.45]

Will Diane be able to distinguish among the six diols and label them from A to F with only the preceding information Label the structures. [Pg.880]

The most likely occasions when secondary containers are used without proper labeling would be when chemicals are disbursed from a laig container into a smaller one at a central stockroom, and when containers are to be taken from the initial workplace into the field. Personnel must be sure to label the secondary containers in these cases and in any other comparable situation. If secondary containers are labeled properly, it also will help remedy one of the more troublesome problems associated with hazardous waste disposal, inadequately identified containers of chemicals. Once in the laboratory, the tendency is to label the secondary containers less thoroughly, often with a cryptic label such as soln. A or some other non-informative label. [Pg.358]

Labels are the most visible and most frequent contact yoru employees will have with chemical information. Labels are intended to serve as an immediate visual warning of the hazards of the chemical. It is veiy important that employees have a thorough rmderstand-ing of how to interpret the information being presented on the label, so that they can modify their handling of the chemical accordingly. [Pg.181]
