Sanitary conditions

The primary thmst of GMP is that it is not enough merely to make chemicals to meet USP or other apphcable specifications. The chemicals must be made under clean and sanitary conditions, procedures and processes must be vahdated and documented, and processing and packaging must be carried out under conditions that preclude mixup and mislabeling. Records must be kept of complaints, and the manufacturer must know enough about the storage properties of the products to specify storage conditions and, if necessary, expiration dates on the label. 

Unpasteurized orange and grapefmit juices also are increasingly popular products in the United States. Emit must be extracted under strict sanitary conditions and the juice kept just above 0°C during its approximately 17 day shelf life. Year round juice supply is difficult because long-term storage of fmit or unpasteurized juice is not feasible. 

Sediment. The sediment test consists of filtering a definite quantity of milk through a white cotton sediment test disk and observing the character and amount of residue. Efficient use of single-service strainers on dairy farms has reduced the use of sediment tests on milk as deflvered to receiving plants. Although the presence of sediment in milk indicates unsanitary production or handling, its absence does not prove that sanitary conditions always existed. 

Milk may be a carrier of diseases from animals or from other sources to humans. To avoid contamination before pasteurization, healthy animals should be separated from sick animals or those with infected udders. The animals should be clean, kept in clean housing with clean air, and handled by workers and equipment under strictly sanitary conditions. Post-pasteurization contamination can occur as a result of improper handling, due to exposure to contaminated air, improperly sanitized equipment, or an infected worker. 

Distillers vary masking procedures, but generally conform to basic principles, especially in the maintenance of sanitary conditions. The cooking and conversion equipment is provided with direct or indirect steam, propeller agitation, and cooling coils. 

A successful program of quality control also involves maintenance of sanitary conditions and production of products free from adulteration, contamination, and filth. Methods given by the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists (1) should be applied to the finished product to ensure against seizure and prosecution by federal and state food and drug authorities. In many instances such methods of analysis are not adaptable to production-line control and less accurate but more rapid methods must be substituted. With such procedures, more severe tolerances must be used to provide a sufficient margin of safety. 

HAV infection primarily occurs through transmission by the fecal-oral route, person-to-person, or by ingestion of contaminated food or water. The incidence of HAV correlates directly with low socioeconomic status, poor sanitary conditions, and overcrowding. Rates of HAV infection have increased among international travelers, injection drug users, and men who have sex with men. 

In developing countries, however, where the low quality of life, poor sanitary conditions, poor standards of food processing, storage and handling, and poor-quality drinking water obtained from contaminated sources, increase morbidity in diseases acquired via the gastrointestinal tracts. 

Verify the adequacy of the ultraviolet light device used for maintaining deionized systems in a sanitary condition.

Holding, conveying, and manufacturing systems, including gravimetric, pneumatic, closed, and automated systems, shall be of a design and construction that enables them to be maintained in an appropriate sanitary condition.

The high degree of urbanization of the coastal zone of the Black Sea represents a permanent menace of marine environment pollution. The principal pollution sources include industrial wastes of large cities and their sanitary condition. Rivers also influence the pollution of marine environment. This is especially manifested in shelf regions such as the northwestern part of the Black Sea. Here, the principal manifestations of the influence of the riverine runoff are represented by eutrophication and formation of a near-bottom hypoxy over vast areas.

Typhus is endemic in Russia, the Balkans, northern Africa, Asia Minor, and Mexico. According to Tarrassevich, 25-30 million people sufferedfrom typhus in Russia in 1918-1921, which amounts to 20-23% of the population. [...]... 

In between, on May 28, 1943,39 he selected six circulating air delousing facilities which - as was noted down by hand - were ordered on May 29, 1943, by the Construction Office s expert on heating matters, Jahrling. Then there is an account of a water quality test on June 1, 1943,40 etc. This extensive correspondence resulted in separate subject files in the filing system of the Central Construction Office, such as Sanitary Conditions 41... 

It no doubt makes sense that vermin were to be found wherever many people lived in camps or in poor sanitary conditions. Polish conditions was a catch phrase in those days We mention this here only to clarify how first-hand experience influenced people s thinking. Very many persons were still living in those days who had relevant experience from World War I in combating vermin. 

Physicians and administrations had at their disposal extensive first-hand reports about the sanitary conditions in eastern Europe.
