Since the Wholesale Price Index for Industrial Chemicals changed only 1% between 1959 and 1971, no correction will be applied to obtain the 1974 prices. [Pg.325]

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports monthly prices for chemicals in its wholesale price index series. The chemicals and allied products group is made up of chemicals, drug and pharmaceutical materials, fertilizer and mixed fertilizer materials, and oils and fats. The bureau has announced a revision of its wholesale price index beginning with January 1952 prices. The January report contains figures on the revised basis back to January 1947, with the revised series linked to that early month. In the revised index, the Bureau of Labor Statistics is using the 1947 to 1949 period as representing 100 instead of 1926 as had been the case. For the first time, plastics will be included in the Bureau of Labor Statistics wholesale price index. Other important items developed during or since the end of World War II are included in the new index. [Pg.6]

In the last decade the over-all index of wholesale prices of industrial goods has risen by 22%—to pick a familiar and specific item, automobile prices were up almost 40%. But over the same period, fertilizer prices gained 7%, pharmaceutical preparations only 3%, and drug and pharmaceutical bulk material prices actually dropped more than 53%. 1958 prices throughout the chemical industry averaged about 6% over 1948, a smaller increase than in all but two of the other 12 industries included in the government price index. [Pg.9]

The manufacturer sets a wholesale price w, and has a marginal cost of production c (normalized to zero). Each of n stores (indexed by 5 affects demand via price ps and marketing effort (which captures retail value-add through activities such as salesperson support, retailer advertising, and in-store displays). The cost of providing effort is quadratic C e) = e. is the unit retailing cost for independent retailer 5, while the manufacturer incurs a unit retailing cost of Vm in its own store. [Pg.583]

There is no published price index for the electrochemical industry, as such. There do exist, however, wholesale price indices for the major components of the electrochemical industry, viz. nonferrous metals, industrial chemicals and electric machinery and equipment. The coverage of these indices is broader than the coverage of the electrochemical industry within each component. An approximation of the recent price movements within the electrochemical industry, however, may be obtained from a weighted average of the price indices for these components. [Pg.261]

The time period under review is 1957 to 1963. The base period of the price index which will be constructed for the electrochemical industry is 1957-1959. For the period 1957 to 1959, the wholesale... [Pg.262]

The wholesale price index which was constructed in section II for the electrochemical industry was used to express the 1958 and 1963 value added by the electrochemical industry in constant (1957-1959) dollars. In the case of all U.S. manufacturing, the Bureau of Labor Statistics all commodities except farm products and foods wholesale price index was used. The industrial chemical industry s reported dollar value added was reduced to constant dollars by using the Bureau of Labor Statistics industrial chemical wholesale price index. The GNP for 1958 and 1963 in constant dollars was obtained from published data. Value added was used as the measure of size because data on total shipments for all U.S. manufacturing were not available in 1958. [Pg.298]

Table 18 shows how the seven major components of the electrochemical industry fared in regard to growth. Shipments is used as the measure of size. The dollar value of shipments in each case was reduced to constant dollars through the use of the appropriate wholesale price index. The average annual percent change in these price adjusted figures was then computed for the period 1958-1963. [Pg.299]

In the case of surface finishing, water treatment, devices, and corrosion prevention, the all commodity except farm products and foods wholesale price index was used, since specific indices for these components do not exist. For nonferrous metals and industrial chemicals, the specific wholesale price indices for these categories were used. In the case of batteries and capacitors, the electrical machinery and equipment wholesale price index was used. [Pg.299]

Consider Fig. 6.1, which shows a linear correlation between the national employment index and the national wholesale price index for the United States from 1919 through 1935. is 0.6474, which indicates that this correlation explains 65% of the relationship between these two variables. This relationship suggests that when wholesale prices are high, employment is high and conversely, when wholesale prices are low, employment is low. This relationship seems reasonable... [Pg.148]

Abstract of Statistics which cover a wide range of products in the chemical and allied industries. Details of British imports and exports can be found in the monthly Trade and Navigation Accounts and the Annual Statement of Trade of the United Kingdom while the weekly Board of Trade Journal includes an index to industrial production, wholesale prices, and figures relating to sales of industrial chemical materials. [Pg.201]
