Because small children may suck on matches, the question of toxicity is often raised and the lingering, vague, though unwarranted idea of phosphoms poisoning may cause concern to laymen and even to physicians. Potassium chlorate is the only active material that can be extracted in more than traces from a match head and only 9 mg are contained in one head. This, even multiphed by the content of a whole book, is far below any toxic amount (19) for even a small child. No poisonous properties whatsoever can be imputed to the striking strip. SAW matches are similarly harmless but, because of their easy flammabihty, they should be entirely kept out of a household with smaller children. The same warning may apply to all wooden matches. [Pg.3]

Economic Aspects. To be useful the raw materials must be recoverable at a cost not greater than the cost of similar terrestrial materials. These costs must include transportation to the point of sale. Comparative costs of recovery are strongly influenced by secondary environmental or imputed costs, such as legal costs or compensatory levies. [Pg.289]

Joint Authorship. When more than one author has created a work, the work is said to be a joint work. Under the law, such a joint work is one prepared by two or more authors with the intention that their contributions be merged into inseparable or interdependent parts of a unitary whole. Thus joint authorship can occur when a composer and a lyricist collaborate on a song. Even though their contributions can exist independendy of each other, ie, the music as an instmmental, the lyrics as a poem, they were created as interdependent parts of a unitary whole, ie, the song. Two scientists collaborating on an article for a scientific journal are similarly joint authors. Their contributions caimot be teased out of the article they have written and so are inseparable parts of a unitary whole. The test of joint authorship is intention. The creation must be made with the intention that the contributions be merged into one work, and that intention caimot be imputed after the fact of creation if it was not there to begin with. [Pg.264]

The U.S. military specification, M1L-P-27201B, requires 95% para content, 99.995% minimum hydrogen by difference, 50 vppm maximum total imputities, 9 vppm maximum combined nitrogen, water, and volatile hydrocarbons, 1 vppm maximum combined oxygen and argon, 39 vppm maximum helium, 1 vppm maximum carbon monoxide and dioxide, and a 10/40 micrometers nominal /absolute particulate filtration level. Liquid hydrogen is stored in double-walled vessels with evacuated pedite or multilayer insulation and transported in similarly insulated 50,000-L trailers or 900,000-L barges. [Pg.331]

The Limerick analysis accounted for a revised list of incident Initiators based on the Limerick plant design and a more detailed analytical modeling of event sequences following each incident initiator. Plant-design-specific and site-specific data were also included in the analysis of the Limerick Mark II containment and in the meterology and demography imput to the evaluation of incident consequences. [Pg.120]

Figure k shows the observed pressure and temperature data for Test 2. Initially, the external electric heater controlled the system s temperature and supplied heat to initiate the reaction. Later, as the reaction rate increased, the reaction itself generated heat at a significantly higher rate than the heater imput. [Pg.345]

Estimates of the lifetime COl are needed for temporal and international comparisons and for assessment of the efficiency of prevention strategies. During the first years of HIV/AIDS treatment, direct lifetime costs were only estimated by simple projections based on retrospective data. Later, specific statistical tools were adopted to estimate life expectancy and lifetime costs. The results of lifetime estimates are very sensitive to imputed assumptions. Table 4 demonstrates some studies in this field. [Pg.361]

The product is contaminated by 5-15% of 2-acetylcyclo-hexanone, which was present in the crude selenide. This imputity may be avoided by purifying the selenide as described in Note 5. The enol content of the product obtained by the submitters varied... [Pg.167]

It seems like just yesterday when the world was going to end at the start of the new century because we wanted to save disk space by using two bytes to store years. The world did not end, but you would be remiss if you were to forget the problem of Y2K and date storage. All software, including SAS, must impute a century when you do not specify one. Therefore, if you want to make sure the century is assigned correctly, then always explicitly state the century when working with dates. [Pg.112]

When a century is imputed by software, it is usually done based on something called a pivot point. The pivot point in SAS for determining the 100-year window is based on the YEARCUTOFF option, which is set by default to 1920. Let s look at an example to see what this means. The following SAS code uses both implicit and explicit century dates right at the YEARCUTOFF pivot point of 1920. [Pg.112]

Caffeine intake equivalent to 2 or more cups/day (estimated from self-report and imputed caffeine values) was associated with a significantly increased hip fracture risk in women less than 65 years old. [Pg.353]

Salvage value is the price that can be actually obtained or is imputed to be obtained from the sale of used property if, at the end of its usage, the equipment (property) still has some utility. Salvage value is influenced by the current cost of equivalent equipment, its commercial value, whether the equipment must be dismantled and relocated to have utility for others, and the (projected) physical condition of the equipment. Salvage value can be thought of as a cash flow that may occur several years in the future, but does not represent income for federal income tax purposes when received. [Pg.625]

One critical issue is the evaluation alternative. In the case of methanolysis, the alternatives are to make DMT and EG by depolymerization or secure materials from traditional petrochemical sources. For hydrolysis, the alternatives are TPA and EG by depolymerization or from traditional sources. For both technologies, the amount of copolymerizing isophthalate and/or 1,4-cyclohexane dimethanol is likely to be too little to justify the cost of recovery. For the various forms of glycolysis and the methanolysis/BHET hybrid, the alternative is the BHET and BHET-like materials made by the combination of a terephthalate and isophthalate plus EG and various glycols. Market prices exist for TPA and EG. BHET is not an item of commerce, and so the value must be imputed from the market price for TPA (the modern terephthaloyl) and EG, plus a conversion cost. [Pg.576]

Polymer modifications are intended to impute different, typically desired properties to the new modified material-properties such as enhanced thermal stability multiphase physical responses biological resistance, compatibility or degradability impact response flexibility rigidity etc. [Pg.3]

Since the estimated MLE is negative, Am < 0, we can say that this case displays as essential regular dynamical behavior. The Poincare map displays an orbit set contained in a short line. The above results can be imputed to the following fact The bubbles rise in an almost-linearly pathway and the liquid phase falls downward between bubbles streams (see scheme in the Figure 10a). This means that the bubbles interactions are feeble. In this way, the modes induced by one bubble stream can not affect another one. [Pg.315]
