The Court of Appeals for the USA Federal Circuit issued (1992) a decision that could strengthen the legal position that so-called pure software could be patented (Arrhythmia Research Technology vs. Corazonix Corp. 22 USPQ2d 103 of CAFC march 12,1992).

Bakers tend not to like wholemeal bread flour because it is less reliable in performance than white flour. One reason for this is the restrictive legal position on flour improvers, which makes the dough less tolerant. If a spout blocks temporarily one component will be held back. Azodicarbonamide is legal in the UK, Canada, New Zealand, and the USA but not Australia or the EU (except the UK). As always the legal position should be checked. At the time of writing, azodicarbonamide appears to have escaped any health worries. The residue produced by its action is biurea, which does not appear to be a problem.

For medicines introduced recently - as indicated by an inverted black triangle (T) in the product entry in the British National Eormulary, MIMS and the ABPI Data Sheet Compendium - doctors and hospital pharmacists are asked to report all suspected reactions. This includes any adverse or any unexpected event, however minor, which could conceivably be attributed to the medicine. Reports should be made despite uncertainty about a cause or relationship, irrespective of whether or not the reaction is well recognised and even when other medicines have been taken concurrently. (The legal position for the pharmaceutical industry requires the reporting of aU serious ADRs from the UK or other EU countries, and of all serious and unexpected ADRs from coimtries outside the EU).
