Improvement analysis

Either the inventory analysis or the environmental profile can be used to identify aspects in need of improvement. Once the processes and substances with the most significant contributions to the environmental profile have been identified, the search for more environmentally-friendly alternatives can start. These alternatives then have to be evaluated individually by experts within, for example marketing, processing and finance and then compared with each other to establish the most feasible alternative.

Having attempted to quantify the life-cycle inventory and impact, a life-cycle improvement analysis suggests environmental improvements. 

ICP-OES is one of the most successful multielement analysis techniques for materials characterization. While precision and interference effects are generally best when solutions are analyzed, a number of techniques allow the direct analysis of solids. The strengths of ICP-OES include speed, relatively small interference effects, low detection limits, and applicability to a wide variety of materials. Improvements are expected in sample-introduction techniques, spectrometers that detect simultaneously the entire ultraviolet—visible spectrum with high resolution, and in the development of intelligent instruments to further improve analysis reliability. ICPMS vigorously competes with ICP-OES, particularly when low detection limits are required.

The purpose of this project is to provide the theoretical and practical foundation for the improved analysis of semen in the context of rape investigations. The research has two primary objectives l) Improvement of procedures for the identification of semen and 2) Improvement of the ability to individualize semen. These objectives will be accomplished through an analysis of acid phosphatase and other proteins to determine whether the forms which are found in semen are unique to semen and whether they display genetic polymorphisms.
