During the first 5 min after admission (the primary phase) the patient is physically examined life-threatening conditions have to be recognized and treated immediately. Imaging is hmited to diagnostic means that are directly available in the resuscitation room, like mobile US machines and integrated X-ray units. Usually, the patients status at that time does not allow transportation to other facilities such as CT at all. 

Most professions have a stereotype, for better or worse, that is associated with them. Think of what comes to mind when you hear titles such a banker , engineer , teacher , police officer , coach , politician , etc. These immediate images are shortcut associations that can bring out an established stereotype that we immediately apply to that person. This imagery can also imply what the expected behavior of the person in that role should be and reinforces the norms, habits, and behaviors about that role. 

Real Time Radiography (RTR) is an advanced method of radiography in which the image is formed while the job is exposed to ionising radiation. RTR is often applied to objects on assembly lines for rapid inspection. Accept-or-reject decisions may be made immediately without the delay or expense of film development. The main advantages of RTR are thus, reduction in inspection cost and processing time. 

Technetium-99m teboroxime is a myocardial imaging agent and is excreted primarily by the hepatobiliary system. It is rapidly taken up by the myocardium and mosdy washes out within 30 minutes. Imaging protocols are performed immediately after injection. The product is a lyopbili ed mixture of boronic acid, dioxine, and other excipients, and the agent is formed with a beating step. 

Polaroid Integral Films. In 1972 the SX-70 automatic camera and integral film system were introduced (12,13). The SX-70 film provided images that required no timing and no peeling apart. Each film unit was ejected through processing rollers immediately after exposure. The entire development process took place within the film unit under ambient conditions. 

Although the cost per print for instant color prints is greater than for conventional film, there is significant value in the immediate availabiUty of instant prints and the fact that it is not necessary to process a whole roU when only a few images are desired. 

Our immediate and instinctive reaction to an impact or explosion leaves a mental image of utter chaos and destruction. There may be a fascination with the power of such events, but our limited time resolution and limited pressure-sensing abilities cannot provide direct information on the underlying orderly mechanical, physical, and chemical processes. As with other phenomena not subject to direct examination by our human senses, the scientific descriptions of shock and explosion phenomena rest upon a collection of images of the processes which are derived from a range of experiences. The three principal sources of these images in shock science—experiment, theory, and numerical simulation—are indicated in the cartoon of Fig. 3.1.
