Hydrocotyle has mild diuretic, antirheumatic, dermatological, peripheral vasodilator, and vulnerary properties. Traditionally, it is used for rheumatic conditions, cutaneous affections, and as a topical application for indolent wounds, leprous ulcers, and cicatrization after surgery. [Pg.97]

Ispaghula is believed to have demulcent and laxative properties. Traditionally, ispaghula has been used in the treatment of chronic constipation, dysentery, diarrhea, and cystitis. It may applied topically as a poultice for furunculosis. [Pg.97]

The traditional system of medicine of the Pacific Rim uses approx 80 species of Apiaceae, for instance, Centella asiatica (L.) Urban (Hydrocotyle asiatica L. centella, Indian Pharmaceutical Codex, 1955). The plant has been used in India since early times for skin diseases and as a diuretic.
