How tests

Additional low-temperature fuel filterability information is often required to confirm whether fuel will pass through fuel filters in cold environments. Two tests are commonly used to determine this performance value, ASTM D-4539 and IP 309. The method ASTM D-4539 is termed the Low-Temperature How Test (LIFT) and is used to determine the low-temperature filterability of diesel fuel.

Table 9.3 gives the subsections of section 5 of the ISO/IEC 17025 standard, which details technical requirements. References to testing and measurement and a focus on how tests should be performed and reported make this part of the standard unique and of value to analytical chemists. 

The first step toward the validation of the system was the development of a testing procednre to be used for the different software modules and for future revalidation. This procedure defines how test plans must be specified, how the tests are performed, and how they are documented. The goal of testing is to establish documented evidence that the system is performing according to the specifications.

Test construction and item generation under schema theory require new approaches. It is worth considering how test items can be constructed to reflect the linkages expected in students knowledge of a subject. The situation is very different with chronic effect testing. The scientific community is split on both what tests should be performed and how test results should be interpreted. While a very rough consensus does appear to be developing recently, much work remains to be done in correlating bacterial and cellular tests to ninety day and lifetime effect testing. 

Figure 57.2 illustrates how test images for a specific scope can be profiled over time (i.e., days, months, years) to identify degrading performance. This profile is also useful to validate repair procedures by comparing test images before and after the repair. 

The purpose of the detailed survey is to ensure a cost-effective repair in line with the client s requirements. This is done by accurately defining and measuring the cause, extent and severity of deterioration. In Chapter 7, we will discuss how test measurements may be used to model the deterioration rate, time to corrosion and life cycle costing. We will need to know how much damage has been done and what has caused the damage. Quantities for repair tenders will probably be based on the results of this survey, so a full survey of all affected elements may be required. Alternatively a full visual survey may be required, with a hammer (delamination) survey of all accessible locations. A number of representative areas may be selected for a detailed survey of cover depths, carbonation depths, chloride content or profile, half cell potentials and other techniques described in the following sections of this chapter. 

As a result, flow testing procedures are important. How testing procedures have one main purpose—to provide specific and detailed information based on the compound s intended use. Compounds that are designated for use in compression molds will have decidedly different flow requirements than if the intended use is in either a transfer or an injection molding process.

From EDX analysis on 1 hour test samples it was found that ZDDP consistently shows higher percentages of S(S/Mo) and P than MoDTP even when S+Mo is considered in the MoDTP. In contrast, in the 8 hows tests at higher load, much higher P and S/Mo Wt% concentrations are found on the MoDTP than on ZDDP san les. This indicates the formation of a richer or thicker film, confirmed by the lesser amounts of Fe, detected in the film.
