Hose extrusion

Due to its balance of strength, oil resistance, inflammability, increased resistance to ozone, ageing and weathering, polychloroprene finds widespread industrial use. Typical uses are V-belts, conveyor belts, wire and cable jacketing, footwear, wet suit applications, coated fabrics, inflatables, hoses, extrusions and many other goods. Adhesives are also a strong market area. [Pg.94]

Hose extrusion includes forcing of the polymer melt through the annular slit of the extrusion head, pneumatic blowing of the hose, folding and removal in vertical or horizontal direction. This method produces biaxial films with perfect physical-mechanical characteristics, it is rather simple and economical, and is suitable for the production of laminated film materials by co-extrusion. [Pg.95]

With this aim, the kinetics of the variation of the polarizing resistance (Rp) of a steel electrode has been studied [118] in the vicinity of its stationary potential when the electrode is in contact with an inhibited polymer film in aqua solutions of electrolytes (HCl and Na2S04). The films were produced by hose extrusion of PE-based compositions with PI (mineral oil) and oil-soluble Cl. [Pg.142]

Extrusion. Extmsion techniques are used in the preparation of tubing, hose, O-ring cord, preforms and shaped gaskets. Typical extmsion conditions are 70 to 85°C for the barrel temperature and 95 to 110°C for the head temperature. The extmded forms are normally cured in a steam autoclave at 150 to 165°C. Some special grades of peroxide curable fluorocarbon elastomers can be hot air vulcanized. [Pg.514]

PVC, PVA, PVAC, Copolymers) organosols forms available including hard and flexible types. Properties are highly dependent on plasticizer used. May be injection, extrusion, compression molded, vacuum formed. Low cost. antistatic sheet and hose, RF gaskets, heat-shrinkable tubing. [Pg.390]

A large variety of hose constructions are produced by the rubber industry for a wide range of applications. To contain transported liquids, usually under pressure, it is necessary to reinforce the hose construction with fabric, yam or short fibres to constrain expansion of the rubber. Although hand-built construction using fabric still represents a proportion of the production, it is also very common to use yams either braided or knitted directly onto the hose liner. For heavy duty purposes it is also necessary to use wire, in a braided form, to either reinforce or protect the hose from external damage. Use of short fibres as reinforcement represents a small proportion of hose production and requires specialised dies for extrusion to orientate the fibres circumferentially. [Pg.187]

The extrusion process takes unvulcanized rubber and forces it trough a die, which results in long lengths of rubber of a dehnite cross-section. There are two general subdivisions of this technique one extrudes simple products and the other builds products by extruding the mbber onto metal or fabric reinforcement. Products from these techniques include tire tread, cable coating, and rubber hose. [Pg.551]

Ethylene copolymers with methyl methacrylate and ethyl, butyl, and methyl acrylates are similar to EVA products but have improved thermal stability during extrusion and increased low-temperature flexibility. The commercial products generally contain 15-30% of the acrylate or methacrylate comonomer. Applications include medical packaging, disposable gloves, hose, tubing, gaskets, cable insulation, and squeeze toys. [Pg.531]

Polymers of Cycloolefins. Polyoctcnamcr elastomers arc processed by extrusion, injection molding, and calendering into hoses, rubber coalings, and tire component. They are mostly used as components in rubber-, PVC-. and PS-based compositions. [Pg.1150]

Rubbers are also being extruded, in a not essentially different way from plastics. Cooling of the extrusion cylinder is necessary to prevent premature vulcanisation as a result of the heat developed by internal friction. The extruder is fed by ribbons, obtained from milled sheets. End products are hoses, profiles, and cable mantles. On-line vulcanisation can be achieved by passing the extrudate through a steam channel, while the rate of extrusion is adjusted to the rate of curing. For this purpose high-rate vulcanisation recipes have been developed. Steam temperatures of about 200 °C are being applied (15 bars pressure). Treads for motorcar tyres are also extruded they are wrapped round the pre-formed carcass and then formed and vulcanised in a press. [Pg.219]

Extrusion of tubes, hose, and profiles is done on standard extruders for rubber. The usual temperature pattern is a gradual increase of temperature from the feed zone to the die. The die temperature is typically 100°C (212°F) and the screw temperature is approximately the same as the temperature of the feed zone.37 Processing aids are almost always required to improve the surface appearance and to increase the extrusion rate. Extrusion represents only a small proportion (about 10%) of the total consumption of fluorocarbon elastomers.37... [Pg.104]

The type of pumps used to dispense epoxy adhesives depends on whether it is a one-part or two-part adhesive. One-part epoxy adhesives are dispensed using direct metering extrusion pumps. An electric motor pushes a follower plate into a drum of adhesive, which is then extruded through a hose to the dispensing valve. This technique is used for medium-and high-volume production rates. [Pg.403]

In the extrusion process a polymer melt is continuously forced through a die shaped to give the final object after cooling. In the extruder the polymer is propelled along a screw through sections of high temperature and pressure where it is compacted and melted. A wide variety of shapes can be made by extrusion rods, tubes, hoses, sheets, films and filaments. [Pg.800]

The compounded rubber stock will be further processed for use. The process could be injection or transfer molding into a hot mold where it is cured. Tire curing bladders are made in this fashion. Extrusion of the rubber stock is used to make hose or tire treads and sidewalls. Another common process is calendaring, in which a fabric is passed through rolls where rubber is squeezed into the fabric to make fabric-reinforced rubber sheets for roofing membranes or body plies for tires. The actual construction of the final product can be quite complex. For example, a tire contains many different rubber components some of which are cord or fabric reinforced. All of... [Pg.696]

Different extrusion profile processes can be used such as a robotic profile. A robot delivers the hot melt over or around a substrate. This robotic extrusion process can uses a flexible, heated, high-pressure hose that is connected to the extruder s die exit. The hot melt travels through the hose. At the end of the hose is a nozzle the tip of this nozzle is, in effect the actual profile die. A computer-regulated multiaxis robot controls the positioning of the profile nozzle die. The nozzle/die is guided by the robot to deposit the profile s hot melt on, as an example, a substrate that is on a multi-station rotating table supporting other substrates to be covered. [Pg.257]
