An incendiary projectile is claimed which consists of a 20mm hollow body equipped with an impact-responsive primer, a booster charge a main HE charge. The body of the projectile is of Ti or Zr which on ignition burns at temps of 2725-3325°C for up to 1 min... [Pg.347]

Thus it was demonstrated that BC can be suitably shaped for application during biosynthesis [77] (Fig. 13). With a patented matrix reservoir technology developed for this purpose, it is possible to synthesize cellulose in the shape of very regularly hollow bodies of different length, wall thickness and inner diameter (Fig. 14) directly in the culture medium. [Pg.69]

The selection of diffusion equation solutions included here are diffusion from films or sheets (hollow bodies) into liquids and solids as well as diffusion in the reverse direction, diffusion controlled evaporation from a surface, influence of barrier layers and diffusion through laminates, influence of swelling and heterogeneity of packaging materials, coupling of diffusion and chemical reactions in filled products as well as permeation through packaging. [Pg.190]

Lindstrom Carlsson, 1993 Rotmensch et ah, 1994). Spheroid-like hollow bodies with a multicellular epithelial morphology have also been utihzed as a model of pathogenesis of infection as a result of Neisseria infection. Numerous cell-cell contacts representative of cells in vivo have been demonstrated in spheroids from nasopharyngeal cells, e.g. junctional complexes, desmosomes, specific orientation of the cytoskeleton and cellular organelles (Boxberger et aL, 1993). [Pg.123]

Due to the liquid circulation caused by the stirrer in the tank, helical coils should only be used with axially operating stirrers (propeller and pitched-blade stirrers), which are, on the other hand, not suitable for gas dispersion. Thus in bioreactors vertical heat exchange tube bundles are preferably used as baffles (see Fig. 1.3c). Occasionally, baffles are executed as hollow bodies, so that they can serve as heat exchangers. [Pg.276]

A more sophisticated technique involves measuring the damping of the oscillations of a body immersed in a fluid. The oscillating body may be a sphere, a thin disk, or a cylinder. Research instruments of this type can attain better than 0.5% accuracy (0.05% in the best cases) for both vapors and liquids over a wide range of conditions. In a variant known as the oscillating-cup method, the fluid is contained inside a hollow body this method is more often used for high-temperature measurements on fluids such as molten metals or molten salts. [Pg.26]

Fig. 7.10.13 shows the crank-sensor package. It consists of a magnet, a molded integrated circuit (MIC) with terminals, and a resin case. An MIC integrating an MRE device and a wave-shaping circuit is inserted into a hollow-body magnet. The MIC with the hollow-body magnet is inserted into a resin cap. [Pg.424]

BNC is biosynthesized by several species of bacteria, most importantly G. xylinus (Klemm et al., 2005, 2006, 2009). This biosynthesis process was first discovered by Brown (1886). Systematic and comprehensive research of recent years has given broad knowledge about the formation and structure of the BNC. The formation of BNC by fermentation opens up new vistas for the in situ shaping of nanocellulose. This bioshaping allows the production of flat pellicles, beads, fibers, and hollow bodies with high effectiveness by changing the conditions of the bacteria cultivation (Klemm et al., 2006, 2009). Stationary fermentation gives pellicles of BNC, while as a result of nonstationary conditions mainly the beads can be obtained. [Pg.265]

In the most simple case during the first draw, a hollow body or a cup shape is produced from a plane sheet metal blank (irregular or circular outline of blank. Fig. 2). The deep drawing tool ever consists of three major components deep drawing punch, draw ring or die or matrice, and a blank holder. [Pg.367]

Recently, Vonau et. al [27] have suggested an all-solid reference electrode consisting of a sintered Ag/AgCl mixture, which is embedded in a solid melt of KCl inside a cylindrical hollow body of porous alumina oxide ceramics. The outer surface of the ceramics is coated with a chemical-resistant insulating layer. At the bottom end, a circular area is held free from the coating and acts as diaphragm. [Pg.302]

Components in the furnace chamber of thermal incineration installations require an extreme mechanical, thermal and corrosive resistance, particularly if problematic waste is burned. Moving firing grates made of C/SiC with a high ceramic content, which simultaneously have a forward feed of the material to be burned are already in operation in incineration installations [23], These C/SiC components are designed as hollow bodies, so that additional air can be introduced via holes, thus achieving an optimization of the incineration. [Pg.127]

Blind rivets consist of a headed hollow body inside of which is assembied a centre pin or mandrel. The rivet is set by inserting the mandrei in a tool having a means of gripping, and the rivet is inserted into a predrilled hole in the assembly. Operation of the tooi causes its gripping jaws to draw the mandrel into the rivet, with the result that the head of the mandrel forms a head on the rivet on the blind side of the assembly, at the same time pulling the metal sheets together. When the joint is tight, the mandrel breaks at a predetermined load. Fig. 12.13. The broken-off portion of the mandrel is then ejected from the tool. [Pg.189]

The glass transition temperature lies considerably above the temperature of use with rigid foams and considerably below the temperature of use with flexible foams. The cellular structure may be open, closed, or mixed. All cells are open to each other with open cellular structures. In contrast, each cell is sealed off or encapsulated from the other cells by a plastic wall in closed-cell structures. Structural foams are foams with a dense outer skin and an interior of lower density they are also called integral foams or self-skinning foams. In contrast to normal foams syntactic foams do not directly enclose the gas but contain small hollow bodies of glass, ceramics, or plastics which are under vacuum or are filled with a gas. [Pg.687]

Blowing can be considered as a special form of stretch forming from annular nozzles producing unbroken, continuous hollow bodies, which are used as such or else cut into film afterward. Blowing also enables hollow products of two components to be produced, e.g., toothpaste tubes, which consist of polyamide outside and poly(ethylene) inside. [Pg.706]
