Indications PO - acute treatment of herpes zoster (shingles) Initial episodes and the management of genital herpes Treatment of chickenpox (varicella) IV - treatment of initial and recurrent mucosal and cutaneous herpes simplex (HSV-1 and HSV-2) in immunocompromised patients Treatment of herpes simplex encephalitis Treatment of neonatal herpes infections Treatment of varicella-zoster (shingles) infections in immunocompromised patients... [Pg.28]

In one of our recent studies, we examined antimicrobial and antiviral activities of four flavonoid derivatives, namely, scandenone (5), tiliro-side (6), quercetin-3,7-O-a-L-dirhamnoside (7), and kaempferol 3,7-O-a-L-dirhamnoside (8) as shown in Fig. 2. These were tested against E. coli, P. aeruginosa, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter bau-mannii, S. aureus, B. subtilis, and Enterococcus faecalis, as well as the fungus Candida albicans by the microdilution method [26]. In addition, both DNA virus Herpes simplex (HSV) and RNA virus Parainfluenza (PI-3) were employed for antiviral assessment of the compounds using Madin-Darby bovine kidney (MDBK) and Vero cell lines. [Pg.308]

Later was reported that variabilin (7a) is a good inhibitor of human secretory and cytosolic PLA2 with anti-inflammatory activity [32] and shows in vitro antiviral activity against Herpes simplex (HSV) and Polio vaccine (PV1) viruses [33]. The high cytotoxicity against the BSC cell line exhibited by variabilin severely limits its potential usefulness as antiviral agent [33]. [Pg.113]

Viral infections of the skin are very common and include verrucae (human paprUomavims [HPV]), herpes simplex (HSV), condyloma acuminatum (HPV), moUuscum contagiosum (poxvirus), and chicken pox (variceUa-zoster vims [VZV]). Acyclovir (ZOVIRAK), famciclovir (famvir), and vala-cyclovir (VALTREX) frequently are used systemicaUy to treat herpes simplex and varicella infections... [Pg.1084]

Reaction of the acid chloride 721 with ethoxycarbonylformamide oxime gave the l,2,4-oxadiazol-5-yl C-nucleosides 722, which was then transformed to the carboxamide 723 (Scheme 194). The latter showed some activity against LI 210 and P388 leukemias in cell culture and antiviral activity against vaccinia and herpes simplex (HSV-2) with very little cellular activity (85JHC1747). [Pg.329]

A PCR sequence was used related to Hepatitis B (HBV) virus genome. Optimization of hybridization detection was performed with 17-mer short oligonucleotides. Carbon paste electrodes (CPE) and hanging mercury drop electrodes (HMDE) were used as sensor surface, CV and DPV transduction of MDB accumulated after hybridization between 23-mer capture probe and HBV-PCR amplicon was monitored for the detection. By using MDB indicator. Herpes simplex (HSV) virus genome detection and discrimination of HSV type I and type II viruses were performed in PCR amplicon... [Pg.411]

Hou et al. assembled CU2O nanoctystals of 4 nm radius on RGO using poly-(sodium 4-styrensulfonate) as the intermediaiy between nanosheet and nanoparticle. The platform exhibits excellent water dispersibility with selective apoptotic capabilities towards cancer cell lines in vitro depending on the irradiation wavelength chosen. Fu and co-workers have introduced antibacterial properties to graphene by decorating it with silver nanoparticles of 50 nm radius. Similarly, Tan and co-workers have used silver nanoparticles on GO as an antibacterial agent for plants. Antiviral surfaces based on GO and GO derivatives [e.g. SO3 terminated GO) which reject attachment of herpes simplex HSV-1 have been reported. ... [Pg.307]

From the marine bacterium Pseudoalteromonas sp. AM, an exopolysaccharide (EPS) was isolated which exhibited significant antiviral activity towards Herpes simplex (HSV-I). The effect resulted in the inhibition of virus replication of 60% when HSV-I was treated with 10% of EPS [81]. A similar result was reported in a previous paper of Matsuda et al. They described the antiviral effect, evaluated in RPMI8226 cells infected with HS V-1 virus, of a sulfated polysaccharide produced by a marine Pseudomonas species WAK-1 strain [82]. [Pg.15]
