The handling attributes of the parts capture the broad parameters involved in terms of their size and weight. Figure 7.2 illustrates the data for the water tank assembly. The assembly attributes data of the humidifier is illustrated in Fig. 7.3. The cost of items purchased comes from the bill of materials (BOM) and other costs can also be noticed. The assembling cost refers to the assembly activity, the items manufacture refers to the cost of items manufactured in-house and the assembly manufacture costs refers to the total cost of manufacturing the product. [Pg.74]

For the moulding tool the most expensive part to be manufactured is the cave insert, which is a mirror image of the fan grill, as can be seen from Fig. 7.8. The cave insert involves complex manufacture and the material attributes and the handling attributes data of it are shown in Fig. 7.9. The manufacture of the cave insert part is performed by sequence of tasks and these tasks have precedence. The methodology of the software allows this to be done rapidly. The tasks are then analysed for their resource requirements and Fig. 7.10 shows the analysis of Mill task. [Pg.79]

For the mould tool assembly, the handling attributes data are shown in Fig. 7.12. Such details were captured for all the parts, including the purchased ones. A section of the assembly task sequence for the mould tool is shown in Fig. 7.13, including the summary of cost. [Pg.80]

Personal computers have introduced new ways to handle pdvate biblographic and text files. The most important factors to consider to achieve satisfactory results in building a bibhographic or text database are the type of information to be stored and the needs of the user. Types of information include correspondence, research results and documentation, meeting notes, and bibliographic references. Needs of the user to be considered should include the potential number of users of the database, restrictions for the access and display of the information because of privacy or proprietary reasons, and the retrieval mechanisms (eg, by keyword, authority list, controUed vocabulary, author, tide, date, or other document or information attributes). In addition, criteria for selecting and encoding information for the database need to be established. [Pg.131]

The lower volatihty of JP-8 is a significant factor in the U.S. Air Force conversion from JP-4, since fires and explosions under both combat and ordinary handling conditions have been attributed to the use of JP-4. In examining the safety aspects of fuel usage in aircraft, a definitive study (15) of the accident record of commercial and military jet transports concluded that kerosene-type fuel is safer than wide-cut fuel with respect to survival in crashes, in-flight fires, and ground fueling accidents. However, the difference in the overall accident record is small because most accidents are not fuel-related. [Pg.415]

In summary, H2O2 has no major drawbacks. Chlorine is a good system but has a number of less favourable attributes chlorate improves on some of these but a major problem is the need to handle solid. The Brocat system is capital intensive and therefore less flexible at lower volumes of effluent. It also cannot deal with salt solution directly. [Pg.361]

Three attributes characterize color hue, lighmess (or value), and saturation (or chroma) and they are graphically represented in color solids (e.g., Munsell solid. Hunter solid). The Munsell Color Notation is a rapid, portable, widespread, and economical system of color determination. However, as it depends on sensory evaluation by panels, many laboratories prefer when possible to replace human judgment by instrumental techniques that are easier to handle. The CIELAB established by the Commission International d Eclairage (CIE) has become widely used with the availability of reflectance spectrophotometric instrumentation. [Pg.441]

The position of the peak (Figure 16) is of critical importance in distinguishing a composition based separation. The large axial dispersion in GPC 1 was attributed to the sample loadings being more than the 9 silica filled columns could handle. This had potentially serious consequences in terms of chromatogram sampling effects. [Pg.177]

In addition to the H NMR resonances of [TpRR ]MgR attributable to the metal-alkyl moieties, the H NMR resonances associated with the [Tp1 ] ligands also provide a valuable spectroscopic handle for monitoring reactivity. For example, each of the complexes [TpBut]MgR exhibits a single characteristic resonance in the range 8 1.34-1.44 attributable to the t-butyl substituents of the [TpBut] ligand. [Pg.317]

Hydrogen cyanide is highly endothermic and of low MW (AH°f (g) +130.5 kJ/mol, 4.83 kJ/g). A comprehensive guide to all aspects of industrial handling of anhydrous hydrogen cyanide and its aqueous solutions states that the anhydrous liquid is stable at or below room temperature if it is inhibited with acid (e.g. 0.1% sulphuric acid) [ ] Presence of alkali favours explosive polymerisation [2], In absence of inhibitor, exothermic polymerisation occurs, and if the temperature attains 184°C, explosively rapid polymerisation occurs [3], A 100 g sample of 95-96% material stored in a glass bottle shielded from sunlight exploded after 8 weeks [4], The explosive polymerisation of a 33 kg cylinder was attributed to lack of sufficient phosphoric acid... [Pg.153]

An organic sulfur compound containing an acetal function had been oxidised to the sulfone with 30% hydrogen peroxide in acetic acid. After the liquor had been concentrated by vacuum distillation at 50-60°C, the residue exploded during handling. This was attributed to formation of the peroxide of the acetal (formally a gem-diether) or of the aldehyde formed by hydrolysis, but formation and explosion of peracetic acid seems a more likely explanation. [Pg.1626]

The paradox generated by these findings is further illustrated by a comparative study of Denmark and Britain, a country with the fastest growth of organic food consumption in Europe (Weir et al., 2005). Demand in both markets is shown to be sustained primarily by the private good attributes, that is health and safety, of organic foods. However, in both countries, much of the organic food is produced and handled in concentrated and industrialised sectors characteristic of the conventional food systems that consumers are... [Pg.86]
