Color determination

Apparent equivalent weight deterrnined by titration with hydrochloric acid. APHA color determined by ASTM D1209, platinum—cobalt method. [Pg.8]

Sediment. Sediment is most commonly used as an operational check of filter efficiency and leakage, although some customers, especially those who iatend to melt the sugar iato clear solutions, write sediment restrictions. The measurement is normally done by passiag the 50% solution used for the color determination through a half black—half white filter pad and visually counting the white and black specks. [Pg.30]

The important thing about such a spectrophotometric curve is that it describes a physical property of the material that is fundamentally related to its color. If, then, the color-determining component can be extracted from the product under test, a... [Pg.4]

Three attributes characterize color hue, lighmess (or value), and saturation (or chroma) and they are graphically represented in color solids (e.g., Munsell solid. Hunter solid). The Munsell Color Notation is a rapid, portable, widespread, and economical system of color determination. However, as it depends on sensory evaluation by panels, many laboratories prefer when possible to replace human judgment by instrumental techniques that are easier to handle. The CIELAB established by the Commission International d Eclairage (CIE) has become widely used with the availability of reflectance spectrophotometric instrumentation. [Pg.441]

The perception of color is subjectively developed in the mind of an individual, and consequently different people can perceive a given color in various ways. Such variability in interpretation causes great difficulty in the evaluation of color-related phenomena, leading to problems in making objective judgements. The development of quantitative methods for color determination was undertaken to eliminate the subjectivity associated with visual interpretative measurements. [Pg.5]

The most used FIA reagents conjugate a fluorophore such as fluorescein—isothiocyanate (FITC) or rhodamine—isothiocyanate to antibody (or antigen) free amino groups. Examples of other commonly used fluorophores for FIA and their spectral characteristics are presented in Table 3. FIA assays are available in sandwich and competitive formats similar to EIAs. Unlike EIA kits which can be used directly with visual color determination, FIAs require a fluorometer, and thus are primarily laboratory-based. [Pg.26]

In Florida, there are regulations on the dilution of concentrated orange juice that can substantially affect the color score. For example, juice concentrated to 45°Brix must be reconstituted to 12.8°Brix before a color determination is made. That concentrated to 42°Brix must be reconstituted to 11.8°Brix. Concentrated orange juice for manufacturing is reconstituted to 12.3°Brix. [Pg.144]

Total Color Determine the total color strength as the weight percent of the sample taken using Methods I and II in Total Color under Colors, Appendix IIIC. Express the Total Color as the average of the two results. [Pg.53]

Many varieties of red pepper, derived from plants of the genus Capsicum, are used in different cuisines around the world for their sensory properties of oral chemical "heat", volatile flavor and color. Determination of the degree of heat in a pepper sample has been a difficult problem for both sensory and instrumental analysts of flavor. Furthermore, the literature concerning the sensory physiology and perceptual responses of the "common chemical sense" (as defined later) has lagged behind other areas of study of the chemical senses. The purpose of this paper will be to review recent developments in two areas, the development of a standard method for sensory analysis of ground red pepper heat and the psychophysical characterization of observers responses to oral chemical Irritation induced by spice-derived compounds. [Pg.26]

Color is a problem for scientific study. One aspect is the vocabulary one used to describe color. Mint green, bottle green, and Kelly green are nice names but not of great utility in that people s physical perception of color is not always the same. In some industries, such as colored fabric manufacture, current use is to send a set of standard colors which are matched by the producer. This is similar to the use of the Munsell color charts in geology. None of these processes makes use of physical optical spectral studies. The reason is that they are difficult to obtain and interpret. For a geologist, color is very important but we rarely have the possibility to standardize the method of our color perception. One reason is that color is both a reflective and transmission phenomenon. The thickness of the sample is critical to any transmission characteristics. Hence, a field color determination is different from one... [Pg.3773]

Color determination of the reaction core from the humidity series show an increase in color formation with increasing humidity, however, to a reduced extent compared to 1-amino propan-2-one production (Figure 7). As might be expected the formation of the transamination product of 2-oxopropanal originating from glucose breakdown and die recombination with the amino acid only partially represents those potentially similar chemical reactions which are responsible for color formation. [Pg.189]
