The goal of COST is to ensure that Europe holds a strong position in the field of scientific and technical research for peaceful purposes, hy increasing European cooperation and interaction in this field. Ease of access for institutions from nonmember countries also makes COST a successful tool for tackling topics of a truly global nature. 

Think local, not global. Large societal or political issues are usually not personal. Subjects such as Middle East peace, September 11, and Columbine have been expounded upon by experts in the media, and you probably don t have a unique perspective (unless you were personally involved or personally impacted). Think specific and personal, rather than abstract and far away from your everyday life.

Economics and politics also intersected in Whitehall s perception in 1956 of the Soviet Union as a threat to Britain s share of international trade. For the first time in human history, the future of mankind is in our own hands. Onto the road leading to a sustainable and peaceful future, we ourselves have placed several "roadside bombs." We must safely pass these. We must avoid energy wars, the collapse of the global economy, creating a drastic change in the climate or bringing a nuclear winter. 

It is our intention that this special edition serve as a useful catalyst and inspiration, to give the readers an idea of the state of the art and its utility in applications of theoretical methods to atmospheric science and we encourage further work in the areas specified by the authors in their contributions. All promise to have a global impact on science and the environment, and perhaps peace [17]. 

The global ban on these horrible weapons has now become an unquestioned norm in international law. Its effective implementation directly contributes to our enhanced security and to the peaceful development of chemistry and the chemical industry. This text provides an in-depth analysis of the challenges to be confronted and the opportunities to be seized in the realization of a world free of chemical weapons.

In comparison with other global regions, (except North America, South America and Western Europe), the Middle East is not severely affected by a lack of funds. Like many countries, the Gulf States rely on their main export commodity, oil in their cases. Relatively speaking (assuming that peace and harmony reign in Israel, Palestine, Iran and Iraq), the market is stable and medical care is well funded. 

The availability of ad hoc CRMs can substantially contribute to the credibility and comparability of experimental information obtained in Antarctica. The global investment made in this remote continent in terms of human and financial resources, and the crucial role played by Antarctic studies in the interpretation of phenomena on a planetary scale do demand that no questionable data be generated or circulated. It would be thus desirable that other countries undertake similar programmes and stimulate the major producers of CRMs to support and participate in such initiatives. International planning and coordination in this context will definitely provide additional evidence of Antarctica as being as a land of peace and science. 

At the international level, the degree of scientific hteracy will help to determine the outcome of global questions related to food, population control, pollution, energy and peace.
