The present status of jet fuel technology can be aptly described as being at the same point as motor fuel technology 25 years ago. Volatility and stability requirements have been recognized and current research activities are directed toward the solution of these problems. [Pg.220]

The current technological status of small (0.5-5 kWe) PEM, SOFC, AFC and PAFC fuel cell stationary units, was recently reviewed by Staffed et al. (2007) (Table 3.12). The system efficiency refers to electrical losses of the fuel-cell system (fans, pumps, control) and the current conditioning unit (transformer, inverter), while total efficiency refers to both electrical power and heat cogeneration. Cost estimations refer to mass-produced fuel-cell systems according to today s state-of-the-art manufacture technologies and materials, while current retail prices of demonstration fuel-cell systems are in the range of 10,000-100,000 / kWe (Staffed et al., 2007). [Pg.70]

This overview reports on the progress achieved over the past five years in thermochemical gasification of biomass and waste recovered fuels. The status of all major projects is reviewed while new trends are briefly presented. The paper concludes with recommendations for fumre R D needs and demonstration requirements while attempting to present a strategy for the commercialisation of gasification technologies. [Pg.1]

The present status report intends to provide comprehensive and detailed information on LMFR technology. The focus is on practical issues that are useful to engineers, scientists, managers, university students and professors, on the following topics experience in constmction and operation, reactor physics and safety, core structural material and fuel technology, fast reactor engineering and activities in progress on LMFR plants. [Pg.4]

Technology status. Only limited research and development (R D) is required for some fuel cycles. In other cases, the R D requirements are very large. This impacts the practical choices for future reactors. [Pg.4]

Technology Status. The AHTR and VHTR use coated-particle fuels in a once-through fuel eyele. [Pg.9]

Current power reactors primarily use onee-through fuel cyeles. Uranium mines, ehemieal eonversion faeilities, and uranium enriehment plants already exist. The only commercial-scale eomponent of the fuel eyele that does not exist for these reactors is fuel fabrication of the coated-particle fuel. The basic fuel fabrication technology, however, exists. Thus primary requirement is to develop and demonstrate the fabrication technology on a commercial scale. The SNF from these reactors can be directly disposed of. Consequently, the fuel cycle status of these two reactors is given a high rating. [Pg.9]
