The physical properties of finish removers vary considerably due to the diverse uses and requirements of the removers. Finish removers can be grouped by the principal ingredient of the formula, method of appHcation, method of removal, chemical base, viscosity, or hazardous classification. Except for method of apphcation, a paint remover formulation usually has one aspect of each group, by which it can be used for one or more appHcations. A Hst of the most common organic solvents used in finish removers has been compiled (3). Many are mentioned throughout this article others include ethyl lactate [97-64-3] propylene carbonate [108-32-7] furfural alcohol [98-01-1/, dimethyl formamide [68-12-2] tetrahydrofuran [109-99-9] methyl amyl ketone [110-43-0] dipropylene glycol methyl ether [34590-94-8] and Exxate 600, a trade name of Exxon Chemicals. [Pg.550]

Silicate Grouts. Sodium silicate [1344-09-8] h.3.s been most commonly used in the United States. Its properties include specific gravity, 1.40 viscosity, 206 mPa-s(=cP) at 20°C Si02 Na20 = 3.22. Reaction of sodium silicate solutions with acids, polyvalent cations, such organic compounds as formamide, or their mixtures, can lead to gel formation at rates, which depend on the quantity of acid or other reagent(s) used. [Pg.227]

Only A/-vinyl-2-pyrrohdinone (VP) [88-12-0] is of significant commercial importance and hence is the principal focus of this article. Vinylcaprolactam is available (BASF) and is growing in importance, and vinyl formamide is available as a developmental monomer (Air Products). Some physical properties are given in Table 1. [Pg.522]

Lofemi/ole (86) is an arylalkylimidazole-containing agent with antiinflammatory, analge SIC, and antipyretic properties It is conveniently synthesized from 1 (4 chlorobenzoyl)ethanol (85) by reaction with dmmonium formate or formamide [29]... [Pg.90]

Properties. It can be stored at low temps in the absence of air or w, and is described as a powerful oxidant which is insensitive to shock, but explds on contact with eth, and flames on contact with formamide or dimethyl formamide (Ref 3)... [Pg.646]

The Hg/dimethyl formamide (DMF) interface has been studied by capacitance measurements10,120,294,301,310 in the presence of various tetraalkylammonium and alkali metal perchlorates in the range of temperatures -15 to 40°C. The specific adsorption of (C2H5)4NC104 was found to be negligible.108,109 The properties of the inner layer were analyzed on the basis of a three-state model. The temperature coefficient of the inner-layer potential drop has been found to be negative at Easo, with a minimum at -5.5 fiC cm-2. Thus the entropy of formation of the interface has a maximum at this charge. These data cannot be described... [Pg.60]

Thermoplastic xylan derivatives have been prepared by in-hne modification with propylene oxide of the xylan present in the alkaline extract of barley husks [424,425]. Following peracetylation of the hydroxypropylated xylan in formamide solution yielded the water-insoluble acetoxypropyl xylan. The thermal properties of the derivative quahfy this material as a potential biodegradable and thermoplastic additive to melt-processed plastics. Xylan from oat spelts was oxidized to 2,3-dicarboxyhc derivatives in a two-step procedure using HI04/NaC102 as oxidants [426]. [Pg.52]

Dynamic light-scattering experiments or the analysis of some physicochemical properties have shown that finite amounts of formamide, A-methylformamide, AA-dimethyl-formamide, ethylene glycol, glycerol, acetonitrile, methanol, and 1,2 propanediol can be entrapped within the micellar core of AOT-reversed micelles [33-36], The encapsulation of formamide and A-methylformamide nanoclusters in AOT-reversed micelles involves a significant breakage of the H-bond network characterizing their structure in the pure state. Moreover, from solvation dynamics measurements it was deduced that the intramicellar formamide is nearly completely immobilized [34,35],... [Pg.476]

The physical properties of the anhydrate form and two polymorphic monohydrates of niclosamide have been reported [61], The anhydrate form exhibited the highest solubility in water and the fastest intrinsic dissolution rate, while the two monohydrates exhibited significantly lower aqueous solubilities. In a subsequent study, the 1 1 solvates of niclosamide with methanol, diethyl ether, dimethyl sulfoxide, N,/V -dimethyl formamide, and tetrahydrofuran, and the 2 1 solvate with tetraethylene glycol, were studied [62], The relative stability of the different solvatomorphs was established using desolvation activation energies, solution calorimetry, and aqueous solubilities. It was found that although the nonaqueous solvates exhibited higher solubilities and dissolution rates, they were unstable in aqueous media and rapidly transformed to one of the monohydrates. [Pg.271]

Methoxypurine was found to crystallize as a hemihydrate from /V,/V -dimethyl formamide, and as a trihydrate from water [63]. Thermal treatment of the trihydrate could be used to obtain the hemihydrate. Zafirlukast was obtained in the form of monohydrate, methanol, and ethanol solvatomorphs, with the drug substance adopting a similar conformation in all three structures [64], In the isostructural methanol and ethanol solvates, the solvent molecules are hydrogen-bonded to two zafirlukast molecules, while in the monohydrate, the water molecules are hydrogen-bonded to three zafirlukast molecules. The structures of the acetone and isopropanol solvatomorphs of brucine have been reported, where the solvent controlled the self-assembly of brucine on the basis of common donor-acceptor properties [65],... [Pg.271]

Properties It is a colourless liquid with b.p 77°C. It (PAN) is soluble in dimethyl formamide, dimethyl sulphoxide, adipo nitrile, etc. It has a remarkable resistance to heat upto around 200°C and exhibits very good mechanical properties. [Pg.183]

The recent introduction of non-aqueous media extends the applicability of CE. Different selectivity, enhanced efficiency, reduced analysis time, lower Joule heating, and better solubility or stability of some compounds in organic solvent than in water are the main reasons for the success of non-aqueous capillary electrophoresis (NACE). Several solvent properties must be considered in selecting the appropriate separation medium (see Chapter 2) dielectric constant, viscosity, dissociation constant, polarity, autoprotolysis constant, electrical conductivity, volatility, and solvation ability. Commonly used solvents in NACE separations include acetonitrile (ACN) short-chain alcohols such as methanol (MeOH), ethanol (EtOH), isopropanol (i-PrOH) amides [formamide (FA), N-methylformamide (NMF), N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMA)] and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). Since NACE—UV may present a lack of sensitivity due to the strong UV absorbance of some solvents at low wavelengths (e.g., formamides), the on-line coupling of NACE... [Pg.488]

Bell, 1989 Rhee and Bell, 1991), random copolymers of methyl acrylate and acrylonitrile were directly polymerized onto the carbon fiber surface. Dimethyl formamide, dimethyl sulfoxide and distilled water proved to be useful as solvents for this process. Polymerization can take place on the carbon fiber electrode, with initial wetting of the fiber surface leading to better adhesion of the polymer formed. The structure and properties of the polymer can be varied by employing different vinyl and cyclic monomers in homopolymerization. Chemical bond can also be formed, such as polymer grafting to the carbon fiber surface. [Pg.295]
